Berlin, OH – Classic in the Country is a thrilling event which takes place in the Amish countryside of Berlin, Ohio. This tournament has taking place annually in January for the past 15 years. This year, NYGHoops Report got a chance to attend the magnificent event where multiple high school teams came out and competed. Here is a recap on some of the top performers and top freshman at the event.
Top Performers
Jacy Sheldon 5'10 G (Dublin Coffman HS, OH 2019) Pictured
The Ohio State commit was flat out sensational during the classic. This was my first time seeing this prospect. Her long lean frame does not intimidate. However, as the ball game started, the fundamental off guard competed at a high level on both ends. In her lone game at the classic, her team defeated Toledo Rogers (OH) as she set the single game scoring record finishing with 36 points (16/22 FGs, 3/8 3 FGs) 7 Rebs, 7 Assists, 4 steals, 6 T.O
Madeline Westbeld 6’02 W (Kettering Fairmont HS, OH 2020)
The deceptively athletic wing is the younger sister of Notre Dame senior forward Katheryn Westbeld. With her size combined with ability to play both inside/out. She reminded me of a young Myisha Hines-Allen. She helped her team finish 1-1 at the classic. 10-25 FG, 0-3 3FG, 22 points, 19 rebounds, 9 assists, 7 blocks, 3 steals.
Naz Hillmon 6’02 F (Gilmour Academy, OH 2018)
The physically gifted Michigan signee was a force to be wrecking with at the classic. In her lone game at the event, she finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. However, her team fell to Mason H.S.
Madison Bartley 6’03 F (Fairmont HS, OH 2020)
Agile, sturdy built forward did a god job protecting the basket on the defensive end. Madison displayed some ability to play offensively both facing the rim and with her back to the rim.Finished 11-19, 0-1 3FG, 27 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals
Sammie Puisis 6’02 (Mason HS, OH 2019)
The junior Florida State commit did not disappoint shooting the lights out of the ball. Leading her team to a 2-0 record at the Classic, totaling 40 points, 14/26 FG, 4/7 FG3, 14 rebounds, & 6 Steals.
Nicole Stephens 5’05 G (Pickerington Central HS, OH 2020)
Pickerington was down 2 star players. Stephens filled in impressively for the upper classmen playing 27 minutes. Displayed the ability to play on or off the ball, both equaly as confident. She finished the day with one turnover. Her final numbers 19 points, 7/13 PG, 3/3 form three, 5 rebounds 3 assists and 1 turnover in 27 minutes.
