The 2023 class has not finished rounding itself out, in the state of New York. However, the level of play of Staten Island guards has put the Empire State on notice in that class. NYGHR, got a chance to catch up with Staten Island resident Grace Sundback 5’10 G (Xaverian HS, NY 2023) last week Friday after classes.
When asked by NYGHR what some of her high school goals was, she answered: “My goal coming into my sophomore year of high school is to remain in a leadership role. Being a starter this past season was good for me, so I ‘definitely’ want to maintain that role on the team.” The rising 5-foot-10 sophomore averaged 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game and named to the ESPN HoopsGurlz terrific 25 lists. Sundback continues to say: “I want to be an impact player that’s highly effective on defense and offense, I’d like to be a 1,000-point scorer by the end of my high school career; and be considered for the top honors such as McDonalds All-American, Jordan Brand Classic and Player of the year.”
Due to her success on the court, her recruitment is starting to heat up. Most evident by her latest scholarship offer from Vanderbilt University. St Johns, URI, and Texas Tech have also already extended offers. Her AAU Coach and Director at New Heights Dominique Nute chimed in about her star guard: “Grace for me is one of the top kids in the area she has worked her way up from the bottom; She is always working and pushing herself to get better , she is inspiring some of the younger kids in our program.”
Sundback plans on keeping us updated on her recruitment, but in the meantime, one can assume she will continue to keep working.
Other Schools that Sundback has been in contact with - Rutgers, Wake Forest, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Yale, South Carolina, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin & North Carolina.
