It is official, Skye Owens (2022) of St Francis Preparatory (NY) is the latest product of St. Francis Preparatory (NY) to head to division one under the tutledge of Head Coach Kerri White.
The 5 foot 6 inch point guard coming off her 2nd on the varsity level and first at the helm as the full-time starting PG was a major contributor on a team that featured 4 other Division 1 players. At season’s end she earned [The Tablet] Brooklyn / Queens All CHSAA performer while averaging 9.8 points, 5.0 assists, 3.2 steals per game and leading her team to CHSAA championship. Although due Covid-19, she and the SFP team were unable to compete for New York State championship yet she attracted the attention of many.
“I chose Wake Forest University because it is a great academic school, it felt like family when I went on my visit I felt very comfortable with Coach Hoover and Coach D'Amico. I also chose Wake because they compete in the ACC for it is one of the Top 3 conferences in the country. I took an unofficial visited to Wake Forest last year, right before my high school sophomore season the visit was Outstanding. “ says the Staten Island (NY) native.
Skye, who plays her travel ball with NY/NJ basked IExcel organization took some time to thank her travel coach. “Coach Walter Welsh has been a great mentor and coach to me since I came to IEXCEL in the 6th grade; He has really groomed me to be a leader and an extension of the coach on the floor. He has been tough on me but it has been fun and I have learned a lot from him.”
