Holmdale, NJ – While visiting many post- holiday events all over the US, in the past 5 years - this year I decided to take a trip 40 miles south to the St Johns Vianney Winter Joust Showcase. The 2-day showcase consist of 4 teams in a boutique type setting and was quite satisfying to my basketball fix.
This would be my starting five from the event (not in order):
Madison St. Rose 5’09 G (2022) St johns Vianney
St. Rose showed off why she is one of the top players nationally in the class of 2022. She is a versatile two-way guard that can score from anywhere. St. Rose continues to raise her stock by continuing to display the ability to play both on and off the ball at a high level. Big-East, Big Ten and Ivy league were in attendance to see her performance.
Caileigh Walsh 6’4 P (2021) Gill St Bernard’s
At 6 foot 4 Walsh uses her size well and move around like a much smaller player. Her shot blocking and rebounding helped anchor the teams defense. She showed versatility on the offensive end as a big, dependable ball handling skills, and showed the ability to play inside the lane and outside – stretching the floor.
Paige Slaven 5’7 (2020) Rumson-Fair Haven
Paige was a major contributor in the Rumson offense, either scoring or setting other’s up to score. Slaven showed range to the arc – she is a dependable ball handler, and shows good decision making. Saint Michael’s College is getting a good one.
Katie Hill 6’00 W (2021) St johns Vianne
The talented wing is a do it all type of player - versatility is her calling card. She is physical enough to play in the lane and skilled enough to play the two guard, while losing no drop-off in her productivity. Hill has a natural feel for the game and that allows her effortlessly to know when she is needed as a scorer or to play off others.
Nyema Linday 5’8 (2021) Staten Island Academy
While some players get noticed for their scoring, some get noticed for stopping people from scoring. Lindsay is a combination of both and her ability to play multiple positions on both ends of the floor. One of the remaining vets from two years ago talented team with multiple D1 prospects. Her willingness to play out of position now will help her in the future and a collegiate player.
Allie McGinn 6’00 (2021) Staten Island Academy
Mikaela Hubbard 6’3 P (2023) St johns Vianney
Aniyah Boston 5’9 (2023) Gill St Bernard’s
Ella Fajardo 5’5 PG (2021) Gill St Bernard’s
Lucy Adams 6’1 F (2021) Rumson-Fair Haven
Saran Moscbella 5’9 (2023) Staten Island Academy
Brooklyn SanFrlippo 6’00 (2023) Staten Island Academy
