Bronx, NY- Harry S. Truman H.S. housed the 2
nd Say Yes to Success Elite Showcase, which hosted teams from NY, NJ, CT, CO, VA, MD and Canada. The event ran for three days this past Martin Luther King weekend
. NYGHoops Report was on hand to cover day one’s seven games.
Standout
Teisha Hyman 5’11 PG (Woodlands HS, NY 2019)
Hyman did not disappoint with her play, finishing with 38 points. Hyman proved to be a dependable ball handler and play maker as a scoring threat from anywhere on the floor. The combo type guard, had a knack for getting to the rim and displaying the ability to finish using either hand.
Danielle Cosgrove 6’04 P/F (Sachem East HS, NY 2018)
Cosgrove was for sure the best post prospect I saw Saturday at the event. The game usually does not come as easy to most post as it does to her. She displayed the ability to score both in the post and from the perimeter. While most post at the event scored on put backs and transition. She displayed a true post presence with a few post moves and dependable footwork.
Vanerlie Valcourt 5’10 G (Mary Louis Academy 2018)
Valcourt is for sure one of the most over looked prospects in the CHSAA. I’ve gotten a chance to watch her play quite a bit over the last two to three months against elite programs & players. She did nothing to disappoint in her games victory vs Regist Jesuit (CO). Her size, ball handling, defense, athletic ability, rebounding and motor where on display at always.
Brianna Randolph 5’07 PG (Bryant HS, NY 2019)
She may not be a house hold name, but the big-time perimeter shooter with underrated all around skills is a name to be store in your recruiting files. Not sure if someone created an all-tournament team but she would be hard to keep her off it. Randolph finished her lone game at the event with an efficient 31point performance, connecting on seven 3-pointers.
Lauren Hansen 5’08 G (Ward Melville HS, NY 2019)
First year varsity player with a bright future; she missed her freshman year with a foot injury.
She is a crafty combo guard with range on her jump shot that extends beyond the 3-point line. The shrewd skilled ball handler could create her own shots, even though she was the primary focus of the defense. Hansen finished her lone game at the event with 31 points.
Madison Lowery 6’01 F (TPLS, NY 2018)
Strong and versatile hybrid-forward made a statement with her ability to stretch the defense at her size. While not being her teams primary scoring threat, she made her touches matter. Lowery has a real scoring ability and showed the ability to finish with contact at the rim as well as legitimate range on her confident jump shot.
Alexa Kellner 6’01 F (Stamford HS, CT 2018)
Kaiya Burnett 5’06 G (Life Center Academy, NJ 2018)
Keyanna Glover 5’07 Combo (South Shore HS, NY 2018)
Imani Lewis 6’02 F (Life Center Academy, NJ 2018)
Noelle Cahill 6’04 P (Regis Jesuit, CO 2019)
Kaylen Benwareesingh 5’11 W/G (Scanlan HS, NY 2019)
Essence Richardson 5’07 G (Truman HS, NY 2019)
Uncommitted Seniors
Chanell Willimas 5’04 PG (Scanlan HS, NY 2017)
Who says good things don’t come in small packages? Still can’t believe Williams is unsigned. Williams is a feisty on ball defender, that at time looked like a one-person defensive press. Quick, explosive, floor general with a motor. She also showed the ability to score form all three levels.
Valena “Nana” Hikerson 5’7 G (South Shore HS, NY 2017)
On a talented high school team stocked with prospects. What jumps out at you about Hikerson is her sweet looking mid-range pull up jumper. This was not my first time seeing her, again like the other times she demonstrated the ability to be efficient scoring threat.
Marthe Guirand 6’03 F (Stamford HS, CT 2017)
This was my first time seeing her Guirand. First thing that jumps out at you in her frame. She exhibited natural athletic ability that permitted her guard the perimeter, yet strong and physical enough to defend in the post. She did not show many flashes on the offensive end. However, she ran to the rim gathered post position and caught the ball several times in traffic.
Tsahai Corbie 5’08 G (South Shore HS, NY 2017)
Corbie is a utility/Glue type player that does a bit of everything. Displayed some shooting touch, came up with a few steals and made some intangible plays.
