New York, NY- Rumble in the Bronx 2016, contrary to it name was housed in the Lower East side of Manhattan at Basketball City. The event has become a land mark in the grass roots landscape and also signifies that the summer evaluation period is right around the corner. Every year, some one emerges from this event and goes on to have a break out summer. These are some of the candidates I think will have break out summers that participated in the RITB.
Honesty Scott-Greyson 5’11 NJ Sparks 2018
Got a chance to watch her team Friday night in a matchup verses Castle. With Honesty, in the first half having foul trouble it was a two possession game in favor of the NJ Sparks. But with Honesty on the floor in the second half with 8:20 left in the game, the NJ Sparks had a 50-20 commanding lead. Although she was involved in her fair share of the scoring, her rebounding, defensive efforts, ability to compete really stood out in a non- evaluation period event.
Raven Farley-Clark 6’03 F NJ Sparks 2017
Farley not only looks the part she played the part. She has a college ready frame combine with good mobility. She used her size to her advantage in creating space in the lane area against smaller players. She did a good job on the defensive boards as well as blocking shots. She showed some perimeter touch as a face up player.
Aliyah Boston 6’2 F IExcel 2019
Boston is a physical specimen with a college ready body as a 14-year-old. She is a true 5 that, plays long and active on both ends and, great shot changer disrupter on the defensive end. Scores off offensive rebounds and creating deep post positioning. Another aspect of her game I left impress with was her ability to pass from out of the post.
Tanasha Mills 5’7 PG Ring City 2020
Athletic lead guard flourished in up-tempo game, but still excelled superbly off the dribble in half court sets. Extreme quick on defensive end, hovered the ball and caused havoc playing the passing lanes. She often drew fouls attacking the rim but showed some ability to knock down some perimeter shots. Keep an eye out for this young prospect.
Kaia Harrison 5’6 PG IExcel 2019
Young, confident, speedy, athletic guard that looks to score. Harrison abilities translate well for the next level. However, what caught my eyes this weekend was her ability to run a team during the school year she shares the ball handling responsibilities with two other D1 prospects. Harrison showed her willingness to share the ball and get teammates the ball in scoring position.
Emily Engstler 6’01 W/F NY Belles 2018
Engstler is a guard trapped in a forward’s body. Her inside/outside game was as usual troublesome for the defense, knocking down shots and making plays off the bounce. With her conditioning looking much improved from the spring. She as very much unstoppable in the 15u division until she tweaked her ankle late into the event.
Destiny Philoxy 5’6 PG Gauchos 2018
Southpaw game floor general that knows how to close out a game. Philoxy, just finds ways to make winning plays either in high school ball or travel ball. She was very efficient at the rumble this past weekend with , superb finishesr off the dribble, breakings down defenders, finding the rim with regularity and, showed some mid rangemid-range game..
Mackayla Scarlett 5’08’ PG Exodus NYC 2020
This 8
th grader played up in the 15u division, and showed why she belong on the court with the older kids. She is a guard who can score either attacking the rim or shooting from the perimeter. Not sure if she is a future point or combo at the next level, but for sure a future D1 prospect.
Saniaa Wilson 5’11 Albany City-Rock 2021
This kid astonishes me more and more each time out. On day one she played center for her team which was short handed at the time. Only in the 7
th grade but playing up in the 16U Division She battle verses taller post, holding her own against the older girls. In the post area she proved to be a power player that was able to her shot off vs taller players. In flashes she would show some perimeter skills that proves she will be able to transition to a wing/ forward type player in the future.
Asianae Johnson 5’7 G NYC Gauchos 2018
Johnson used her entire repertoire over the weekend at the Rumble in the Bronx. She used her good ball handling in combination with her quickness and nice first step attacking the rim looking to score. Showed good body control in her ability to stop on a the dime and elevate for mid rangemid-range jumpers. Also showed dexterity in finished well in traffic using with both hands.
Sydney Brown 6’00 W/F I-90 Elite 2017
Brown showed good athletic ability coveted at the next level. She was consistently attacking and finding ways to finish around the basket weather on put backs or attacking the rim. She defended on the perimeter as well as post players, she also showed some touch form from the perimeter, but her rebounding can one day become her calling card.
