MLK Weekend, Nazareth Regional High School hosted The Rose Classic Super Jam. The event housed teams from New York, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Ohio and Washington D.C. Many players represented their areas well so NYGHR randomly selected players to be highlighted.
Smooth Lefty guard that is one of the most underrated in the 2018 in the NYC area. She had another positive showing at the event. I have seen her several times in the past, and she has turned the corner in recent months in terms of leadership. Hammonds range extends way beyond the arc, very shitty with the ball in hands combined with quick lateral.
Emily Engstler 6’01 St Francis Prep HS 2018 (NY)
Strong framed tweener forward that knows how to play basketball. On Friday night, she had it going and was as productive and efficient as any prospect attending the event throughout the weekend.
Zia Cook 5’08 PG Rogers HS 2019 (OH)
Exciting guard who gets better every time I got to see her over the weekend. Assertive on both ends of the floor and is becoming difficult to handle on the offensively as she has tremendous combination of size and athleticism. Has the handles to get to the rim from the perimeter, and is a willing passer when attacking the basket. She is a unique talent who I’m sure you will be hearing her name more often.
As
ainae Johnson 5’08 G Grand Street Campus 2018 (NY)
Cat quick guard with impressive leaping ability, Johnson never passed herself and played hard on both ends. She is tough scorer, confident, assertive and attacks the rim with authority. Over her team’s two games at the event, Johnson proved to be good defender and rebounder for her size.
Jenna Annecchiario 5’05 PG Baldwin HS (NY)
In an era of scoring guards, it was refreshing to see an old fashion floor general. While it is true that Jenna lacks the physical stature, many scouts these days crave. There was not a more cerebral and polished floor general, passer and accurate perimeter shooter at that position during the Rose.
Kaia Harrison 5’06 G Baldwin HS (NY)
While playing with two other division 1 guards on her team. Harrison found how to standout on the court. She used her very quick first step getting into the lane as well as the ability to knock down the mid-range shot. On the defensive end her athletic ability allowed her to stay in front of the ball handler and got her hands on the ball in the lane on a number of occasions.
Jess Knight 6’00 W/F Archbishop Williams 2020 (Mass)
Tweener forward that played both facing and back to the basket. Displayed the ability to knock down the three-point shot on a consistent basis.
