Brooklyn, NY- On Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, Nazareth Regional High School hosted The Rose Classic Super Jam. The event housed teams from Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Washington, DC. Many players represented their areas well so this time around we randomly selected players to be highlighted.
Jess Louro 5’10 G/W (ST. Rose HS, NJ 2015)
The solid built Middle Tennessee State University signee used her strong frame in finishing at the rim & rebounding. The blue-collar player did a bit of everything for her team. As her team trailed most of the game she continuously made plays to keep the game in reach versus a national recognized Regis Jesuit from Colorado. Louro showed the ability to knock down the 3 time and time again when left open, she created off the bounce and competed on the defensive end mixing it up with bigger players.
Elizabeth Limonta 6’0 F (ST Mary’s HS, NY 2015)
This may have been my third time seeing this unsigned senior forward. With her team having some key injured it has provided extra playing time for her. She’s gets better every time she steps on the basketball court. She is a true post area player that rebounds, finishes around the rim and protects the basket. Limonta’s game and abilities would be well suited for a smaller academic D2 school.
Shyasia Pridgett 5’10 G (The Patrick School, NJ 2015)
Pridgett is a very unique guard that has a strong frame that allows her to play both on the perimeter and in the post area. Her ball handling, shooting and court awareness allowed her to create on the offensive end. Pridgett also did a good job helping out with rebounding and playing against bigger players.
Taekenya Cleveland 6’0 W (Regis Jesuit HS,CO 2016)
She is a far from a finished product but has a lot of the tools needed to be a good player at the next level. She showed the ability to score posting-up, shooting from mid-range, attacking the basket, and from behind the three-point line. She took whatever the defense gave her and did not force up shots.
Niya Johnson 5’8 G (Nazareth HS, NY 2016)
Showed natural scoring ability and instincts, on the final game of the event scoring 35 points. She showed a nice pull up off the dribble and had range extending beyond the arc. Johnson has a thick frame that allowed her to help out in the paint at time defending taller players, playing out of position as a forward. Her ball handling ability allowed her to get into the lane where she would continuously put up mid range jumpers.
Andrea Robinson 6’1 W/F (McDonough School, MD 2016)
Robinson is a long, agile and athletic built forward with some wing skills. She showed a soft touch playing primarily facing the basket and did a good job using her wingspan and length in pressuring the ball and defending the rim.
Shaniqua Edwards 6’1 F (Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY 2017)
Edward is your classic old school 4 player. She has a long medium build that she used to attack the boards. She did not show shot blocking ability but she made it difficult for the opponent to score in the lane, her presences altered shots. The young prospect did show some ability to operate with her back to the basket.
Kyara Frames 5’4 PG (McNamara HS, MD 2017)
Frames’ is a true natural point guard, with the ability to drive the basket and score around the rim. She is a very good on ball defender that plays with some confidence and makes good decisions with the ball in her hands. When left open the perimeter she connected on her perimeter shots.
Maya Calder 6’0 W (National Christian Academy, MD 2017)
Calder is a long forward that did most of the dirty work for her team setting screens, chasing down loose balls and defended. Just by running the lanes, playing hard and getting put backs she finished with 16 points all in the second half of her teams final game at the event.
Kania Pollock 5’8 G (Boys & Girls HS, NY 2018) Pictured
Pollack used her combination of size, strength, speed and ball handling ability to get wherever she wanted on the court. The young combo guard was smooth off the bounce and was at her best in dribble drive situations. As she continues to develop her jumper she will be a name to remember.
Gracie Stone 5’10” G (Long Island Lutheran HS, NY 2018)
Stone served as the sixth man on a very talented team with five division one signees. She played right on par with her older teammates although she only played a limited role. She knocked down a few shots, but at this time her role is that of a perimeter defender.
Destiniy Philoxy 5’7 PG (South Shore HS, NY 2018)
She is a skilled and athletic combo guard that likes to play in the open court. The young guard looks to be still growing into her body, she did a good job attacking the rim and at times running the team. She did show and ability to score with limited touches.
