Meet Marisa Davis and she is Joe Fenelon’s latest student-athlete to participate in his Q&A series via NYGhoops Report
The 6-foot-2 Valley Vista High School (AZ) rising senior, is coming off a state championship. The “do it all” player helped lead her Valley Vista team to a 27-3 record where hybrid forward earned 6A Player if the Year honors and 2nd Team All-State recognition by MaxPreps.
As a two time state champion Marisa averaged a “double - double” in each championship year (freshman 14 points & 18 rebounds and as a junior where she averaged 18 points and 14 rebounds per game) as a result, her performances have caught the eye of many colleges and universities.
She, with consultation from her family, will announce her college decision next week on June 1st.

How was your AAU experience playing with Coach?
I enjoyed playing for Coach Brian Crichlow and playing with one of the top EYBL teams. It was a great experience playing against top level competition on the best circuit in the Country. Coach B is not only my coach but like a second dad and I’ll forever be thankful for all he does. He will forever be family.
How was your experience like playing basketball at Valley Vista high school?
I’m currently having a great experience playing with the best basketball program in the State of Arizona.
What was your most memorable moment during the high school season?
Going undefeated and being a 2x State Champion
What is it like playing for your high school coach?
It’s amazing playing for Coach Rachel Matakas because she demands the best out of her players. She’s very competitive, passionate, intense, driven and loves to WIN. She’s a Great leader and I wouldn’t have it any other way! She will forever be family!
What do you think was the biggest growth in your game that led to you getting scholarship offers?
My biggest growth in my game was development. I trained with one of the best, Tony Miller and my dad. Playing with and against the better competition to include going to exposure camps like EGB helped with my exposure.
What part of your game do you want to improve on?
I can always improve in all aspects of my game. However, I’m most concerned about showcasing my shooting abilities beyond the arc. People don’t get to see me do those things but I’m very capable.

Did you take visits to college yet also how are the virtual tours compared to visits?
Some of the California schools and all of Arizona schools. The vibe is different compared to touring on campus. I prefer visiting vs virtual tours. But I appreciate both.
