Brookville, LI- Coaches Choice NY/NJ college Showcase was a one day event held in Suffolk County last weekend prior to the playoffs. NYGHR was in attendance to evaluate the talents.
Hanner Taniya 6’00” F Roselle Catholic 2019
Nicely built young physical forward that plays tough through contact and she is not afraid to fight for second and third chances to try and post. Not the focal point of the offense but finds ways to score. Very good hands; catches the ball in traffic as well as gets deflections on the defensive end.
Grace Stone 5’10” G Long Island Lutheran 2018
She's a very good playmaker that can score when needed, at the NY/NJ challenge she displayed more confidence. With LUHI playing without there leading scorer Grace played dual roles as the lead guard as well as the primary scorer. She knocked down perimeter shots, ran the team and competed on the defensive end.
Kadaja Bailey 5’10 G ST Marys 2018 (Committed to St. Johns)
Long, athletic guard that has the tools and makes it all look very easy at times. She is known as an offensive weapon on Long Island but struggled a bit at this event. Bailey is very quick with the ball in her hands and constantly puts pressure on defenses by attacking. She is a good enough ball handler at the HS level to help out with ball handling duties verses pressure situations.
Valena “Nana” Hickerson 5’06” G South Shore HS 2019
True NYC combo guard who's also a knockdown shooter. She can spot up and shoot off the dribble. Handles the ball well and doesn’t try to do anything extra or too fancy. She uses an effective crossover dribble to get from one spot on the floor to another, to the rim, or set up teammates for scores.
Selena Philoxy 5’07 PG South Shore 2018
The heady, deceptive southpaw PG has a quick first step. Her quickness allows her to slither through defensive pressure. She also has the ability to make good entry passes to the post. The confident lead guard is the head of of a talented team.
Harding Patrice 5’07” PG Sayreville HS 2017
Smaller combo scoring guard that provided scoring from behind the three point line. Deceptive athlete that plays under control, quick first step, scorer that can play in the half court or in transition. Played perimeter defense applying some pressure on the ball and used her quick hands to come up with a few steals.
Kaiser Lucky 5’07” (G) Grand Street Campus 2016
Lucky has a throwback game, which is comprised of more substance than flash. She uses her strength to finish at the basket through contact, showed touch with her mid range shot, was equally as effective when running the point.
Milicia Reid 5’08” PG Bishop Loughlin HS 2017
Reid is NYC blue collard attacking combo that can score. She thrived in the transition game; confident and crafty around the basket. Demonstrated good balance, showing the ability to maneuver through traffic without crashing into defenders and drawing offensive fouls. Reid finished with 22 points in a victory.
Lames El-Gammal 6’02” F Baldwin HS 2016 (Committed to Brown)
Strong built forward with toughness and plays solely in the lane, competes on the glass with a workhorse mentality. Did a good job establishing post position and was a post presence on the offensive end. She did a good job blocking shots during the event. She finished with a 13 points and 10 rebounds.
