Paterson, NJ-After enjoying Christmas day with my family. I got a chance to spend the next day in the gym at the JFK Holiday Showcase. The showcase was a three-day event, and housed eight teams from the state of New Jersey. This write up will focus on the top 3 teams and some of the top prospects at the event.
Saddle River Day
The Rebels are led by a Junior
Michelle Sidor 5’08 (G) &
Jenna Jordon 6’00 W/F. The nationally ranked, Sidor finished the day with 31 points verses a talented Life Center squad. She connected on four three pointers during the contest, and played some of her best ball during a third quarter run. Jordan, provided an inside presence scoring 19 points, mostly scoring around the rim and at the line. Jaida Patrick 6’00 W, fouled out and was in foul trouble most of the game, but her atheism was on completely display during her reduced minutes. Manhattan signee
Sydney Watking 5’11, provided toughness around the rim as well as a shooting touch from behind the arc.
Newark Tech
Tech may have the best combination of post in New Jersey’s 2019 class with
Mariah Perez 6’03 &
Bianca Glover 6’01. The lady Terries strong inside play combined with the sharp shooting from unsigned senior
Abbey Lawrence 5’09, make light work of JFK (Paterson), overpowering them 51-26. Newark Tech unsigned senior guards
Caitlin Townes &
Jaylah Bennett, are strong built guards that can both score either attacking the basket or form the perimeter. .
Manasquan
Head coach Lisa Kukoda, team may not be as keep as in the past. But the chemistry of her first five was off the chain during their 70-45 victory verses Immaculate Conception-Lodi. There big three consist of Virginia Tech signee
Dara Mabrey, 2019
Faith Masonius &
Lola Mullaney. Masonius is a skilled forward that provided scoring punch both inside and out, accomplished passer and a good feel for the game. Mullaney, was lights out from the perimeter finishing with 22 pooints while connecting of five three-pointers. Mabrey is playing mostly on the ball now, so her scoring may not be as high as in the past. She finished with 16 points, but her imprint on the game was enormous.
