Brooklyn, NY- This past weekend was the 5thweekend of the Fall Rose Classic (2016). It would be fitting to call this weekend ‘Show and Prove’ weekend, with many of the Northeast’s top programs and players in attendance. NYGHoops Report was in attendance both days to take in the action from start to finish.
Shaniqua Edwards 6’01 F Rock Creek Academy 2018 (Syracuse)
Although already committed to Syracuse, the Harlem native made a statement in her homecoming. Edwards quite simply made it look very easy at time. Her combination, size, speed, strength, coordination and skill-set are rare and when motivated, scary. Edwards shot the ball well from the perimeter all weekend long and even connected on a few three pointers. Her ability to rebound and start the break and go coast to coast was very impressive.
Jordan Nixon 5’08 PG Mary Louis Academy 2018
Jordan’s team played two games on Sunday. She controlled the action like a maestro controlling an orchestra. She delivered in all aspects of the game: offense, defense, rebounding, being vocal and doing all the little things that go unnoticed on a stat sheet. She played fast but never in a hurry and showed the ability to shoot the ball from mid-range as well as from behind the arc. Her ability to get into the lane was second to none, as well as her ability to finish in traffic through contact.
Emily Engstler 6’01 W New Heights 2018
Even though her team played three games on Saturday, it would not surprise me if me if she finished with an average of three triple-doubles. Emily is well known for her scoring, passing and shooting touch, but this weekend she revealed great instincts with blocking shots without leaving her feet.
Danielle Patterson 6’03 Mary Louis Academy 2017
Coming off an official visit from Tennessee, Patterson laced right up and hit the court. Her length, agility, touch and ball handling are things that pop right out at you. Patterson shot the ball well from the perimeter in her two games, but she did not need to do much more in these lopsided victories.
Kaelyn Satterfield 6’00 W/F New Heights 2019
It does her no justice calling her a forward; she’s better off being classified as a baller. Satterfield showed enough versatility by playing all five positions during her teams three games on Saturday while doing so at a high level. A crafty ball-handler with high IQ, she uses her frame to her advantage in order to create mismatches. She did a nice job scoring, rebounding, distributing, defending and competing in all of her contests.
Taleah “Noo” Washington 5’07 PG Rock Creek Academy 2018 (ODU)
Washington was the steady hand that guided the RCCA bunch to a 5-0 record up in NYC this weekend. Washington is a crafty and savvy PG that got the ball to players in their spots. She did a good job balancing between distributing and scoring the ball throughout the five games. For the fifth game, she felt her team get a bit flat, so as a good leader would do she asked the DJ to play some go-go music to get her teammates going for their warm-up prior to their game.
Kania Pollock 5’08 PG/G Mary Louis Academy 2018 (pictured)
Pollock finally looked fully healthy and back to 100 %. She displayed super electric passing abilities, dime-ing her teammates with a few beautiful no-look and half-court bounce passes. She also flaunted a smooth midrange jumper and played with a different swagger attacking the basket.
Chanel Williams 5’04 PG Scanlan HS 2017
Williams is a smaller, fast guard that can change the outcome of a game without scoring. She is an aggressive on-ball defender that creates havoc. Williams also provided offense primarily attacking the basket. Her quickness and speed with the ball in her hands was second to none. When left open, she demonstrated the ability to knock down the perimeter shots.
Grace Heeps 5’11 G NY Havoc
Missing her team’s first two games on Saturday because of PSAT’s, it was obvious that she was missed. Upon her return all the intangible things returned to her team, from teammates communicating on the court to spacing on the offensive end. With her shooting touch she proved to be a threat to score from anywhere at MS 113.
Imani Harris 5’05 Exodus 2021
It’s not often that a junior high kid walks into Rose Classic’s senior division and knocks down 3 straight three-pointers in a game verses some of the nation’s top players. But Harris showed more than a nice shooting touch; she handled the ball with confidence and was even spotted calling a few clear-outs to go one-on-one.
Saniah “YG” Caldwell 5’08 NJ Sparks 2022
Something that caught my eye with this prospect was her ability to play up a few years and be composed regardless of the situation. Caldwell’s athletic abilities are right on par with the older girls. She is a smooth ball-handler that exhibited the ability to finish at the rim.
Brianna Randolph 5’06 PG Harlem USA 2019
Randolph might be small in stature but she bought her big girl game on Saturday. She showed good court vision and the ability to breakdown her defender off the dribble, but her shooting touch on Saturday was notable, connecting on 3 straight three-pointers during the first half of a game.
Kayla Morris 6’01 W/F Scanlon HS 2020
Morris possesses a nice size and can be classified as a hybrid: enough strength to play in the lane coupled with enough athletic ability to play facing up. She is a really smooth athlete and likes to use it to her advantage on both ends of the floor.
Vanerlie Valcourt 5’10 Mary Louis Academy 2018
Carrie Gross 5’08 G Rock Creek Academy 2018
Kylee Watson 6’02 F New Jersey Belles 2020
Katie Foos 5’08 G NJ Belles 2017 (NYU)
Olivia Summiel 6’00 W/F New England Crusaders 2019
Stella Clark 5’04 PG NJ Belles 2017 (Northeastern)
Daja Wentz 5’07 PG Scanlan HS 2019
Fatou Konare 6’06 P Rock Creek Academy 2017 (Marshall)
Catherine Almeida 6’04 P NY Havoc 2019
