Schenectady, NY - NYGHoops Report was on hand for the 3
rdAnnual EST Empire State Takeover Summer Kickoff. This event has become a can’t miss event prior to attending the Gym Rat Challenge for both Prospects and local college coaches.
Lauren Fillien 6’00 F (Columbia HS, NY 2021)
I loved that Fillien took a business-like approach to the camp. While always smiling and having fun she brought a blue-collar work ethic to the court.
She played bigger than her listed size rebounding and blocking many shots. She looked to attack off the bounce and showing range to the arc.
Laycee Drake 5’06 PG (Hancock HS, NY 2021)
The Alpha Tier Athletics PG was nothing short of sensational during the event. She used her first step to blow by defenders when needed and got into the lane at will. While never over penetrating, she knew when to pull up for a mid-range jumper.
Jackie Piddock 5’08 PG (South Jefferson HS, NY 2022)
The NY Havoc floor general uses her frame well attacking downhill. Piddock demonstrated a knack for balancing scoring and distributing the ball with teammates also exhibited range to the arc.
Makenzie Smith 5’10 W/F (Broadalbin-Perth HS, NY 2022)
Not knowing much about this Saratoga Sparks combo-forward leading up to the camp. I left impressed with her ability to both play inside /out on both ends of the court. Blocked shots, rebounded, good feel for the game and displayed range to the arc.
Payton Graber 5’05 PG (Schalmont HS, NY 2022)
The Saratoga Sparks PG drew attention because of her ability to make plays for others. In most All-Star situations the guards think shoot first. Graber used her teammates and was always pushing the ball ahead to an open teammate. For a young PG she also did an impressive job playing with multiple speeds.
Antonoa May 5’11 G (Amsterdam HS, NY 2021)
For only seeing some of these prospects for the first time at this event, this NY Havoc guard may have been one of the top three point shooters at the camp on this day.
Alexis Wright 5’11 W/F (Berne-Knox- Westerlo HS, NY 2022)
This Saratoga Spas prospects unique blend of size, athleticism and skill, not to mention a blue-collar work ethic and toughness was all on display. Threat to the arc, load in the lane and showed the ability to rebound and start the break.
