Wilmington,DE- NYGHoops Report had a chance to stop in to the first day of The Diamond State Classic. On the 25th anniversary of this landmark event, The Diamond State Classic is a charity event that has helped raise over a million dollars to help the less fortunate. The Foundation continues to support
B+ Foundation, Special Olympics Delaware, and
Kay's Kamp. On my lone day at the event I had a chance to concentrate on the St Francis Healthcare Cup Bracket.
Chyna Nixon 5’10” G Neumann Goretti HS 2017
Nixon is a big, strong & crafty guard that operates off the bounce. She showed the ability to operate through her high school system, but it’s easy to see she is more than just a system player. She finished with 13 points vs. a very stifling Bishop Loughlin defense geared to stop her. Every point was earned. She used her strength and athletic ability on the defensive end and did a good job rebounding.
Grace Stone 5’10” G Long Island Lutheran 2018
Stone is a big guard with excellent size, versatility, athleticism and potential. Stone used her quick first step and ball handling to blow by opponents. She was extremely productive in her time on the floor not just scoring (11 points) but rebounding and defending multiple positions. One of the more impressive things was her ability to switch over and run the point for her team in crucial parts of the game.
Sarah Mortensen 6’01” G/W Long Island Lutheran 2016
On a loaded talented Lutheran team she is the lone senior and it’s expected that she produce points. She does most of her scoring with her nice fluid perimeter shot, with range that extends behind the arc. She’s got excellent size for her position and a solid body already that will serve her well at the next level.
Elizabeth Marsicano 6’01 W/F ST Rose HS 2018
Wing/ forward player with excellent size and lots of potential. A year ago she was learning to handle the ball, but now at times she helps the team with ball-handling duties. She is an athletic defender that looks comfortable defending in the paint but also shows flashes of guarding on the perimeter. Marsicano’s perimeter range extends to behind the three point line but she is more than just a spot up shooter.
Meg Hair 5’11” W Jamesville Dewitt HS 2018
Hair showed the ability to do a little bit of everything. She shot the ball well from deep early. She handled the ball well. She is a willing passer with a fair basketball IQ, who always looks to make the right play. She has great footwork, understands how to change speeds, and has multiple ways to finish when she got into the paint.
Leysha De Los Santos 5’04” PG Bishop Loughlin HS 2019
De Los Santos showed great poise and maturity for a freshman. She made good decisions against a very talented nationally-ranked opponent. At this point she is more of a shooting guard with a very dependable shooting touch but at times she switches over to play on the ball. She is very good at creating scoring opportunities in half court sets and delivering points at crucial moments.
Mikayla Markham 5’06” PG ST Rose HS 2018
Markham pounds the ball and does a good job of driving, drawing defenders and then finding the open man. She has a scorer’s mentality and can do it from behind the arc or off the dribble. She shows enough athletic ability and IQ to be effective guarding faster or bigger guards.
Alisha Lewis 5’06” PG Ursuline Academy 2019
Lewis is a very capable ball-handler who knows how to get to her spots on the floor. She is improving as a potential playmaker with her court vision. She is a good shooter with deep range, and is especially dangerous when she gets her feet set.
Victoria Reynolds 5’11” G/W Archbishop Spalding HS 2016
Reynolds is a long, fluid & strong athlete. She is solid for her position and is a versatile player who plays and defends multiple positions. She is only listed at 5’11 but did the bulk of her scoring in the paint area in transition or off the dribble. She played fast but under control and showed a good burst of speed & elevation to the rim. (Committed to William & Mary)
Ryann Evans 5’10” W/F Archbishop Spalding HS 2019
Alisha Kebbe 5’10’ G Neumann Goretti HS 2016 (Committed to Syracuse)
Ariel Peterson 5’07’ PG Central Dauphin East HS 2019
Maggie Connolly 5’08” G Ursuline Academy 2018
Alex Pendergrass 5’10” F ST Rose HS 2017
Jennifer Louro 5’08” G St Rose HS 2017
Skydajah Patterson 5’09” F Bishop Loughlin HS 2016
Maggie Connolly 5’08” G Ursuline Academy 2018
