Holmdel, NJ- The 9
th Annual New York vs. New Jersey event was again a large success pairing some of the top programs from NY and NJ against each other. If my memory serves me correct, here are some of the local New York D1 players that have laced up at this event recently; Imani Tate (Albany), Jasmine Alston (LaSalle), Saniya Chong (UConn), Amani Tatum (Manhattan), Nyasha Iriizarry (Manhattan) and Carolyn Gallagher (Columbia). The prospect highlighted bellow will all play college ball at some level in the future.
Marina Mabrey 5’11” G (Manasquan HS, NJ 2015)
Mabrey is a Notre Dame commit and she was simply unstoppable attacking the basket and shooting form behind the arc. The NJ prospect took a limited amount of high quality shots in creating points. Headed into the fourth quarter with her team ahead convincingly she took her foot off the gas pedal finishing with 20 points.
Erin Storck 5’06” PG (Long Island Lutheran HS, NY 2015)
The Sacred Heart University signee is primarily used a as a shooter. She showed out when needed to the most which was late in the game due to Michigan bound
Boogi Brozoski sitting out late in the game with foul trouble. Storck not only connected on a few big shots to keep the game in striking distance, she came up big on the defensive end as well finishing with 16 points.
Aryn McClure 6’01“ F (Archbishop Molloy, NY 2015)
McClure did not have a great offensive showing at the NY/NJ Challenge but the Quinnipiac signee did not let that effect other parts of her game especially on the defensive end. The agile dependable ball handling forward, afforded the Molloy guards the opportunities to spot up as she found them for open shots.
Nneka Ezeigbo 6’02” F (Notre dame HS, NJ 2016)
Ezeigbo is far from a finished product but her size alone was an asset. At this point she is more of a rim protector that does not shy away from contact. She made her biggest impact on the defensive end where she is almost always in position to block and alter shots. Offensively she looks to get and keep good positioning and showed the ability to use either hand around the basket.
Sydney Coffaro 5’05’ Combo (Holmdel SH, NJ 2016)
Coffaro was a small, lean built baby face combo guard that had her share of scoring. The southpaw guard showed enough ball handling and took care of the ball in pressure situations. She showed the ability to knock down the three point shot and when over played she attacked the basket and stop and pop.
Caponegro was a do it all prospect that will play D1 college basketball. She is your classic tweener forward that showed the ability to rebound, defend, finish around the rim and handle the ball well enough to make plays. She was a very important part of her team’s victory playing all three frontcourt position during the course of the game.
Victoria Galvan 6”02” F (Manasquan HS, NJ 2017)
A True back to the basket player. She already has a frame that would withstand D1 pounding. She has real good hands and has already developed some post moves but needs to work on being a more consistent scorer around the rim. She showed the ability to step out and shoot from as far out as the three point line. She finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds in a victory vs. NY Archbishop Molloy.
Maureen Coakley 5’11” F (Red Bank Catholic HS, NJ 2017)
Coakley a solid built forward, that did a good job rebounding against bigger older girls. Offensively, most all her points came from near the rim, in put back situations and posting up. She showed a few post moves and finish around the basket with both hands doing a good job of using her frame.
Dara Mabrey 5’06” G (Manasquan HS NJ 2018)
Maybrey is a very efficient young combo who is vocal in directing traffic on the court. She did a good job scoring with limited touches from behind the arc, shooting the pull-up and in transition finishing with 11 points. For a young prospect she did a good job communicating on the defensive end.
