Every year a prospect comes out of nowhere and surprises you, Last season that player was six foot combo forward, Bronx, N.Y. native Saran Camara of South Bronx Preparatory high school (2024).
Saran has been hooping since the young age of 3. She picked up the hobby from her dad who played for the Senegal national team. During her solid sophomore campaign she caught fire in the PSAL playoffs. She averaged 22 ppg, 12 rebounds & 3 assists. NYGHops Report got a chance to catch up with the talented forward and her high school coach Alhuseney Trawally.
When asked what she has been working on all summer her response was, “I’ve been working on my ball handling so I can be able to play the Guard position; I am also working on my leadership skills, I am looking to step up for my junior year. “ When asked about some of her future goals she responded “ I want to win a city title this year and advance to winning states; For college I just want to get a scholarship and be the first in my family to go to college.”
I also got a change to her HS coach bout Camara’s potential, “Sarans skill-set is everything you want in a basketball player, she has size, athleticism, and is skilled for a girl her size. Most kids at 6'0 can’t do what she can; I can see Saran playing Division 1 basketball she’s a gifted basketball player. “
Both coach and Camara promised to keep us updated as the recruiting process starts to hear up.
