Hampton, VA - Boo Williams sporting complexhoused the 2nd Annual Boo Williams Elite 64which was hosted by Nadine Domond. NYGHoops was on hand to taking the action on all three days, in my opinion these were the top five prospects by position in attendance that I got to chance to observe.
Mikayla Boykin 5-9 PG Clinton, NC 2017 (Duke Commit)
Boykin was hands down the best PG prospect at the Elite 64 event. The rising sophomore was able to consistently beat defenders off the dribble with her Lightning-quick first step. She dazzled the crowds with her ball handling skills and array of strong finishes at the basket. She used her upper body strength well when attacking the basket allowing her the ability to separate and score in traffic, she also showed a nice soft touch from the three point line. (Carolina Flames)
Britney Franklin 6-4 P Plymouth, NC 2017
Franklin was an Anchoring force in the middle the Gardner Flames stifling defense. She showed off her size, physical dominance and interior skills proving to be one of the better post players at the Elite 64. The young long lean and athletic post was agile and light on her feet, but was deceptively strong and absolutely not bothered with contact. Franklin was a monster on the boards and particularly on the offensive glass, at times coming up with multiple boards in single possessions. The light footed athlete ran the lanes well in transition and finished at a high pace. (Carolina Flames)
Stephanie Watts 5-10 Wesley Chapel, NC 2015 (UNC Commit)
Watts was a competitor that played super hard at the Elite 64; she showed the ability to flat out score. The very athletic guard was by far the most fun to watch on both end of the floor at the Elite 64. She played much bigger than her listed size; Watts was able to score around much bigger players in the paint. She did a good job getting to the free throw line as well as from behind the arc. (Boo Wiliams)
Jade Phillips 5-11 Raleigh, NC 2015
Phillips did a good job competing at both ends her speed, grace, quickness and ability to elevate her teammates play with crisp passes quickly set her apart. Phillips showed many different tools while consistently beating would be defenders, whether off the dribble, running the court or just coming of ball screens. Her three point shot was not the prettiest, but she converted enough to keep the defense on their heels. Most of her shots came within the flow of the game and connected at an acceptable rate (Carolina All-Stars)
Tyra Whitehead 6-3 Richmond, VA 2016 (Wake Forest Commit)
Whitehead was excellent from the start Friday night and played great all the way through the end on Sunday. She is equipped with a college-ready frame and a good feel for the game that allows her to make plays away from the basket. Whitehead displayed a soft touch in the mid post; but also shows her versatility with her power around the basket were she stood out as a woman amongst girls. She did a very good job rebounding, passing the ball and blocking shots. (BWSL Richmond)
