Fairfax, VA – The 11
thannual edition of Art Turner Memorial, was once again a huge success with many nationally ranked teams and players. For the past four years, NYGHoops Report has been covering the event from start to finish. Here are some of the standouts from the event:
Azzi Fudd5’11 G (St. Johns College HS, DC 2021)
Fudd has displayed a high basketball IQ and is far more skilled than she gets credit for. Over the weekend she exhibited good ball handler, passing & leadership. However, what blew me away was her ability to take over a game and her efficiency scoring. Not to mention Fudd finished with 35 points and a victory against the number one nationally ranked team.
Nina Rickards5’08 G (Christ the King HS, NY 2019)
The Florida commit may not be a house hold name, but the Florida Gator commit displayed a very competitive streak during the event that will serve the future gators well in the future. During her game vs. St. Johns College (DC), she took on the challenge of guarding the best player at the event. The dynamic mid-range shooter with tremendous confidence, got into her pull-up jumper naturally with good footwork during the weekend.
Eniya Russell5’11 G (Institute of Notre Dame, MD 2020)
Excellent, smooth, ball-handler with superb creativity as a passer and finisher. Natural unselfish facilitator who finds nice blend between scoring and passing. She demonstrated the ability to get wherever she wants on the floor with grace. Russell plays with a casual demeanor on both ends of the floor.
Mir McLean5’11 W/F (Roland Country School, MD 2020)
Heading into this era of position list basketball. McLean’s size, atheism and motor are major assets. In her lone game at the event, she did not disappoint. Her willing ability to rebound and create on both ends. Very smart versatile defender that uses her length and leaping ability to as a threat under the rim.
Gia Cooke5’08 PG (Elizabeth Seton, MD 2022)
A smooth and super skilled guard prospects who plays and efficient and intelligent game. Smooth scoring combo with range to the arc.
Chardonnay Hartley5’04 PG (Long Island Lutheran Crusaders, NY 2022)
While relatively unknown to the national scene, Hartley has been a main stay in the NYC grass roots youth circle for some time now. She uses her slick sharp ball handling, good instincts, to make plays and if you back off her, she punishes you with her three-point shooting ability.
Paris Clark5’08 G (Long Island Lutheran Crusaders, NY 2022)
Clark is another young prospect coach’s will need to get use to hearing her name. She showed the ability to play both in transition as well as in a half court structured system. Dependable ball handler with range to the arc, she impressed with her ability to make the right play as young guards asked to play three different positions. Despite her willowy built she displayed a noise for rebounding the ball in the trenches finishing with double digits rebounding.
I was very familiar with Reese coming into the event. But she makes it very difficult not to mention her. The slender built forward never shies away from contact. She displayed high basketball IQ. While not much of a perimeter shooter, the south paw finds ways to contribute that translate well into NCAA rebounding, defending, slashing, distributing, or scoring around the rim.
Ja’Niah Henson5’03 PG (Roland Park Country School, MD 2019) Morgan State
Henson may not be a household name but watching her play you know Morgan State is getting a gem. She did a great job balances running the team and scoring. While quicker that fast the way, she sets-up defenders she keeps them guessing and off balance. If you play off her or go under on a ball screen, she will make you pay as three-point threat.
