Fairfax, VA- The 8th annual Art Turner Memorial Tip-off Showcase hosted many of the nation's top programs. NYGHoops Report was on hand to observe all three days of the action. The following freshman performers are some names I’m sure we will hear from for the next three years.
Natalija Marshall 6’4 Christ the King (NY)
The long lean wing / forward type, wasted no time making herself noticeable Friday night scoring CK first basketball of the season, on a baseline jumper. She is currently more of a face-up player that operates inside the three-point line, with a nice soft touch; as she continues to add strength and develop this will for sure another Christ the King D1 player.
Aurea Gingras 5’08 PG Paul VI (VA)
Being able to log meaningful minutes, for the number team in the country is exactly what Gingras did this past weekend. The rookie point guard showed no nerves in her first set of HS games at the event. The young deceptively guard provided a boast off the bench with her willingness and ability to attack the rim. Gingras also connect on a few three-point shot throughout the weekend.
Mir McLean 5’10 W Roland Park (MD)
Super Athlete that helped her team go 1-1 verses two nationally ranked teams. Right out of the gate her leaping ability jumps out at you. McLean showed good anticipation in rebounding, craftiness and good foot work attacking the rim. She found ways to the free-throw line and converted at a high mark. McLean used her athletic ability to defend both on the perimeter and in the lane. As she continues to improve her ball handling and perimeter shot she will be a name to remember.
Charlotte Jewell 5’07 PG Thomas Edison HS (VA)
She took full advantage of the event. She used her court awareness to get her to her spots on the floor. She routinely operated off the bounce, good feel as a passer. She showed the ability to knock down a few there-point shot as well as mid-range jump shot. Jewell came up with a few steals playing the passing lanes in her lone game at the event.
Angel Reese 6’3 W/F St. Frances (MD)
Reese was used as a reserve at the event. However, she still made her presence felt at the event. Her length, athleticism and skill set for her size allowed her to perform like a veteran. She demonstrated enough ball handling skills to start the break, played facing up and with her back to the basket, rebounding and blocked shots.
Chantell Gonzalez 6’08 P Archbishop McCarthy (FL)
Hope Evans 5’03 PG Bishop McNamara (MD
Rachel Balzer 5’10 Germantown Academy (PA)
Randi Baldwin 5’11 Elizabeth Seton (MD)
Allie Kubek 6’00 F Sanford HS (DE)
Rain Green 5’06 Roland Park (MD)
Kaydan Lawson 5’10 G/W Hathaway Brown (OH)
