Junior wing Jordan Wilmoth 6-2 (Immaculate Heart HS, Washington, NJ 2016) makes her call to play in the A-10 Monday. After a great unofficial weekend visit she informed Dayton University head coach Jim Jabir of her decision to make Dayton home. NYGHoops got the chance to speak to Wilmoth about her visit and decision.
"With the combination of great academics and athletics and immediate connection with coaching staff and team, Dayton is definitely the place for me; It all originally began with heavy conversations with head coach Jim Jabir. Coach had come to two of my practices already and was showing a great amount of interest."
"I immediately wanted to visit the campus, which I was able to do this past weekend" said Wilmoth who held offers from GWU, Michigan and Georgetown.
After a breakout fall evaluation period Wilmoth continues her stellar play leading her high school team to a 5-1 record. Their lone lost came at the hands of national ranked Patterson Eastside HS in a overtime game (49-47).
"Throughout the day, I was able to tour the campus, watch a game and hang out with the girls; mid way and towards the end of the day I had a growing feeling in my gut, a feeling of excitement."
The New York resident plays her travel ball with IExcel organization under the well respect coach Walter Welsh. She expanded on the education side, "Knowing basketball isn't forever I was really looking for a school that would give me the best education in order to become an engineer (computer engineer) and allow me to succeed in the real world; the passion and effort that I saw being put into the engineering program really excited me."
When ask what will her role be on the team in two years, she informed me "I will be playing as a big guard/forward with my skill sets of being able to play inside out, their are high hopes of being an impact as a freshman."
