Brooklyn, NY – This past Saturday the Isaiah whitehead Foundation hosted the 2nd girls Open Run of 2021. The run housed some talented young ladies that attend schools in NY, NJ and CT.
The event was broken down into drills and skill work to start and the second half was five on five. These are some of the players that caught my eye during the run.
Imani Harris 5’6 PG (Monsignor Scanlan HS, NY 2021) Pictured
Played lights out, she connected on some of the toughest shots during the run. Harris was very effective off the bounce, scoring and facilitating. She knocked down enough perimeter shots to keep the defense honest. The senior guard is headed to Temple University.
Mia & Mya Pauldo 5’5 Guards (Middle School, NJ 2025)
During the run verses high school players, both twins where dependable ball handlers who did a good job probing the defense. The dual both where equally as effective playing on and off of the ball during the run. The twin backcourt as they are referred to played with the poise and confidence. This is a set of names I would remember if I were a college coach.
Kimora Taylor 6’5 P (Grand Street Campus, NY 2023)
While not yet a finished product, Taylor displayed some tools that are worth mentioning. A fleet footed rim protector that gets up and down the court effortlessly. On the offensive end she did most of her damage near the rim. As she continues to refine her skill sets and add strength she will become a force in the PSAL.
Tara Day Johnson 5’10 G (University HS, NJ 2021)
Day-Johnson was a monster on the glass and attacking the rim during the run. Her combination on size and athletism separated her during the run.
Chardonnay Hartley 5’5 PG (Bishop Loughlin HS, NY 2022)
Coming back from a knee injury I was not sure what to expect. The cat quick Hartley has not lost a step. The time away from the game, you can tell she has added strength which allowed her to fend of defenders and finish with contact at the rim. During her freshman year she was the starting PG on a nationally ranked LUHI team.
Amoni Byrd 5’7 PG (Archbishop Molloy HS, NY 2022)
During the run Byrd was very efficient with her touches. She displayed range to the arc, a nice feel for the game, some ability to both play with and without the ball in her hands. Playing with Castle Athletic next summer will help get some eyeballs on her.
Trinity Buckrhon 6’0 F (Loomis Chaffee, CT 2023)
Kaila Richardson 5’6 G (Scholars Academy, NY 2024)
Gabby Hemenes 6’2 F (Bishop Loughlin, NY 2022)
Dally Mareno 6’0 F (Baldwin HS, NY 2023)
Johlana Tatum 5’7 G (Familiy Academy, NY 2025)
