USJN Fall Finale, has become a gap between summer hoops and the high school season. This year the event was packed with some of the best prospects of the northeast. Many programs from NY, NJ, PA and Canada represented. On the last day of the event NYGHoops was In the building to view the action. Here are some of the standouts from Sunday:
Hands down one of the most talented unsigned players at the event. Ineza looked absolutely terrific in the games I was able to watch of her. She displayed the ability to create for herself as well as for her teammates. She got to the rim whenever and however she wanted. Good body control and finished with high efficiency at the rim, not to mention her ability to knock down 3 pointers.
Laila Fair 6’02 F (2021) NJ Team Miller 15 Chrystal
What a difference a summer makes. Coming off a knee injury, Fair finally looks to be turning the corner and returning back to form. Usually seen her playing center in the past, but at this event she played more of the power forward role. She showcased a completely different offensive arsenal at the Fall Finale. Hitting mid-range shots, starting the break, the agile athletic forward was just as effective on the defensive end.
Julianna Laguna 5’07 PG (2022) PA Philadelphia Belles 15 Peterson (Pictured)
Laguna will be one of the many Staten Island 2022 stars. She displayed the ability to both play on and off the ball during the event. She is a strong, physical lead guard that impressed us with her poise and maturity. Laguna displayed court vision, she always looked to make the pitch ahead pass. She created scoring opportunities for her teammates and was one of the teams most efficient scorers. She displayed the ability to score on all three levels.
Cassidy Saylor 5’09 G (2021) NJ United NJ 16 Ostaszewski Navy
Saylor has improved her ability to score off the dribble. She is more than a perimeter shooter , she has a good elevation on her jump shot. In addition, Saylor also has the ability to create her own shot either with a nifty midrange pull-up or taking it to the rim. Saylor has a scoring mentality and played with extreme confidence on the offensive side of the ball.
Ella Anthony 5’08 G (2020) NY Riverside Hawks 16
Not sure what her recruiting looks like. Again, she is one of these prospects that leave you saying what a difference a summer makes. Combo two-way player looks as confident as I’ve ever seen her. She displayed the ability to get to the basket, as well as get to the line. She knocked down enough perimeter shots to keep the defense honest. From what I saw this past weekend, she will be one of the top prospects in her private school league this year.
