Winter Haven, FL. – This past weekend I got a chance to travel down south to Florida. During my stay in the sunshine state, I got a chance to attend one of the state’s longest standing (20 years), individual showcase event “Show and Prove”. Round Ball Academy & Insider Exposure did a tremendous organizing and running this mega two-day event.
Janiah Barker 6’2 W /F (Tampa Bay Tech Senior High, FL 2022)
It did not take long to figure out who she was. Barker proved to be too much to handle for defenders all weekend long. The athletic front court performer was a match up nightmare with her versatility and ability to virtually play every position.
Codio will have a bright future in the Big Ten. She reminds me of former New Jersey forward Imani Lewis, who is currently a Wisconsin Badger star. During the two-day camp, she displayed the ability to play both in the post and the perimeter. She finished at the rim using both hands, did not shy away from contact and when left open showed the ability to connect from behind the arc.
Taliah Scott 5’9 G (Oaklreaf HS, FL 2023)
She was fun to watch, an athletic guard that brings good size and versatility to the backcourt. As a younger guard she impressed with the ability to balance between being a scorer and sharing the ball. Looked comfortable playing on and off the ball as well as in up-tempo play as well as in a half court setting. The competitive guard was vocal and also contributed on the defensive.
dailyn Gilbert 5’8 PG (Seffner Christian Academy, FL 2022)
Classic floor general, that has the ball on a string. Penetrated and collapsed the defense whenever she wanted, pinpoint passer even in traffic. Nice physique that allows her to dish or absorb contact when attacking the rim. Played at her own pace during Show and Prove. Two-way player that can be a walking triple double as soon as she hit the court.
Shakirah Edwards 5’10 G (Rutherford High, GA 2024)
Athletic, smooth and explosive combo guard with poise beyond her years. Three level scorer that can flat out score. Thrived in the open court but was equally as effective in half court play. A bit unorthodox, the first two possession I felt like she made lucky shots. But after watching her you got to figure it out, she can’t make 15-20 lucky shots in one day.
Kaiya Wynn 6’0 W (The Ensworth School HS, TN 2021) Tennessee Commit
Explosive, athlete that played and guarded multiple positions. Slasher that thrives in transition, two-way player.
