Brooklyn, NY- Mother’s Day weekend
NYGHoops Report stopped into MS113 in the Fort Green section of Brooklyn. This is a quick recap of some of the top performers.
Andra Espinoza-Hunter 5’10” (G) NJ Demonds 2017
Andra had a breakout performance last weekend showing her all round skill sets. She has a relaxed and laid back style, but don’t mistake that for her not playing hard. She not only knocked down and scored with ease verses very god competition she carried her team to a 5-0 record. She also showed a lot of strength and toughness attacking the rim and finishing with contact and drawing many fouls.
Sydney Zambrotta 5’08” (G) NY New Heights 2106
Zambrotta played the point mostly but at the next level is a projected scoring combo guard. ACC, SEC, Big East, AAC, Conference USA and A-10 schools and number of other conferences are heavily recruiting her. Zambrotta is a lefty streaky shooter with range up to 22 feet. When she gets hot she can run off a bunch in a row but the thing she does best is score.
Zia Cooke 5’08” (G) OH Lady’s 1
st 2019
Cooke displayed athletic grace and very good basketball IQ, for such a young prospect playing in a high-level high school division. Zia’s confidence and ability was evident by her ability to score almost any time she wanted from?anywhere on the floor; this what completely separated her from therest of the competition. She loved getting out and running in transition but also showed the adaptability to play at a high level in half court sets.
Angelique “Pikachu” Rodriguez 5’11” (W) New Heights Blue 2017
Rodriguez played on a talented New Heights Blue team, with many slashing guards that made a living attacking the basket. She stood out right away, with her size and her stroke form behind the ark. Angelique did show the ability to put the ball on the floor as well as rebound.
Shanniah Wright 6’01” (G) Exodus NYC 2018
When it comes to effort Wright was second to none, the way she worked the glass rebounding. The ultra-bouncy 4/5 has an evolving offensive game, great hands, and a contagious competitive spirit. She was relentless around the paint area getting numerous put backs and second chance opportunities for her team on the offensive glass.
Corrine ‘CECE’ Cardwell 5’08” (W) Lady’s 1
st 2016
Cardwell is a tough, physical and competitive wing that played in full attack mode on both ends of the floor. Cardwell got to the rim with her slashing ability and scored when defenders sagged off her continuously knocking down shots. She will for sure be a D1 signee.
Jhaylien Fisher 5’07” (G) Team G.I.F.T.S 2017
Fisher is a young combo that handles the ball well in the open floor and knows how to score. Although she was the primary, if not only scoring threat on her team, the defense was focused on stopping her. She knocked down some mid-range pull-ups and scored in transition. She showed some leadership skills on the court as well.
Deja Wentz 5’06” (G) Exodus NYC 2019
Though Wentz will probably play the point guard in college she scores very, very well. Wentz is composed amongst the trees and older players. She was really dependable finishing at the rim even with contact. She also showed some good speed and strength; as well as a dependable FT shooter.
