Boston, Mass- The 3
rdAnnual NYGNE 100, was back at Emanuel College for the second straight year. Similar to past years, there were many talented new faces attending the one-day skills/ Evaluation camp.
Yirsy Queliz 5’5 PG (Proctor Academy, MA 2023)
There is no doubt in my mind the young Michael Carter Williams Starz, lead guard, could have competed against the high school girls at camp. She had no problem seeing the floor and making plays for others. Plays under control, subtle in her approach. Good feel for the game and range to the arc.
Laura Mendall 5’8 PG (Tabor Academy, MA 2022)
Lefty floor general, AAU team Providence, was one of the highlights of the event. Handled and took care of the ball. Mendall played with her head up always looking for her open teammates. Was just as comfortable pushing the ball in transition, or slivering through defenders, making playas in a half court set.
Tahlia Tah 5’9 G (Bridgewater Regional HS, MA 2021)
She was the first one in the gym. As soon as The Bay State Jaguar (AAU) got to the gym, she got right on the court and started putting up shots on her own. She used her deceptive first step and strong build to finish through contact around the rim. The dependable ball handler showed the ability to go off bounce. She was one of the few players to connect on more than three 3 pointers during 5 on 5 play.
Alecia Maxwell 6’1 F (Springfield Central HS, MA 2019)
The Springfield Lady Ballers forward is not a finished product but man she has some tools. The agile Maxwell may have been one of the best rim runners at the event. Although she is not built physically and imposingly. She never shied away from contact getting high pointed rebounds. Scored mostly from offensive rebounding and did a good job protecting the rim.
Cadence Johnson 6’0 W/F (Old Rochester Regional High School, Mass 2022)
Johnson represented the Bay State Jaguars at the NYGNE100. She was by far the best inside outside player at the camp. Her size and frame allowed her to post up when needed. However, her skill sets also allowed her to play facing the rim. During camp she demonstrate the ability to score on all three level.
Amany Lopez 5’7 PG (Springfield Central HS, MA 2023)
This western Mass guard wasted no time getting her self noticed. She is a fierce competitor who attacks downhill with purpose. She has dependable ball handling skills, plays within herself and score/ contributes in a variety of ways. (Springfield Lady Ballers)
Julie Bahati 6’03 F (Sprinfield Central HS, MA 2023)
This young front court player gets better and better each time out. While not yet a finished product, she has the tools needed to be a major contributor at the scholastic and collegiate levels. Protect the rim, runs the floor like a wing and shows some ability to play facing the rim. (Springfield Lady Ballers)
