Marlton, NJ- The Philly Faceoff became an event one shouldn’t miss! The three-day event created a large buzz on social media prior to taking place. So, I was unaware of what to expect going into the event this year. However, the event was just as good as advertised, with top flight programs from the east coast battling on the court for bragging rights. On Sunday, I spent the day watching junior high school players
The following young players stood out to me:
Samiaa Wilson 6’00 F (City Rocks) 2021
Wilson Played up in the 16u & 15U divisions. Physically and athletically she fit right in with the older girls. Wilson’s strength and ability to play with contact at this stage is scary. Her athletic ability and skill sets combined with her size puts her on par with some of the best in the nation.
Taliah Carter 6’01 F (Philly Triple Threat) 2022 Pictured
Long lean slender built forward. Active on both ends, ran the floor and finished in transition and put backs.
Myah Simmons 5’05 G (Team Takeover) 2022
Strong built guard with ball skills, good instincts, and scoring mentality. However, what caught my eye was her shooting ability. When I watched her 7
th grade playoff game she had connected on 3 - 4 three point shots in one half.
Breauna Ware 5’4 PG (NJ Sparks) 2022
Lead guard willed her team to victory in the championship game. Ware’s Quickness, speed and strength were all on display throughout the game.
Saniyah Gleen 5’11 W (Exodus) 2023
Future wing prospect with good length and a mysterious ability to slither through defenses. Deceptive ball handler that covers lots of ground, and showed some ability to shoot from beyond the ark.
DK Turner 5’10 F (MD Lady Stars) 2022
Strong built interior player with nimble feet and a soft touch around the basket. Turner also showed some ability to play facing the basket with touch from 10-12 feet.
Kiley Capstraw 5’07 G (NJ Bells) 2022
Ball handling good 1 on 1 skills, possesses a mid-range pull up as well as range. Capstraw played smart and under control. She was also unselfish with sharing the ball.
Paulina Paris 5’03 PG (Exodus) 2022
Skilled PG that played up in the 14u division. Very good ball handler that found ways to get her shot off verse taller players at the rim. Showed range to the arc and played with NYC Swagger.
Madison McDaniel 4’08 PG (Team Takeover) 2024
Christina Sanchez 5’06 G (Exodus)
Mariana Freeman 5’05 PG (city rocks ) 2021
Sherrese Pittman 6’00 W (Cap City Ballez) 2021
Alyssa Reiley 5’03 PG (Comets) 2022
Ashley Oconnor 5’05 PG (NJ Sharpshooters) 2022
Ally Carman 6’01 (NJ Sharpshooters) 2022
Jaira Coar 5’6 G (NJ Celtics) 2022
(If you are left out and felt you deserve to be written about. Keep in mind I was not able to see all games and some teams did not hand in a roster)
