Mooresville, N.C.- This was the second rendition of the Carolina Oktober Fest presented by Carolina Girl’s Hoops Report. All the teams that attended the event were form the Carolina’s. The three-day event hosted many talented prospects. This writeup will focus on some of the top performing prospects during the event.
MVP
Sarah Strong 6’2 Forward Strong Center 2024 (pictured)
The best way to describe Sarah at the Oktoberfest was she was the MVP. She did not disappoint, showing everyone why she is considered one of the nation’s top prospects in her class. Strong carried her team to a 4-0 record verse stellar competition. As the competition stiffened, she rose to the occasion. The point forward, loved throwing outlet passes and assisting to teammates. But don’t get it twisted she is a walking bucket that can get a triple double every time she touches the floor.
While not yet a household name it should be a crime that Thompson does not hold a D1 scholarship offer yet. She is the ying to Strong’s yang. She is a three-level scorer that contributes to every aspect of her team winning. Efficient scorer that plays within the system, but when needed shows the ability to go one on one. She plays even bigger than her listed size and shows the ability to play all three perimeter positions.
#6 Taylor Henderson 5’11 Guard Lady Phoenix 2022 (UNCW Commit)
I knew nothing about this prospect, but after her first game I was impressed with this prospect. Played bigger than her listed size, was able to get into the lane at will. Displayed range to the arc. But most importantly played hard on both ends and stayed engaged in game even when on the bench supporting teammates.
#6 Amani Ware 5’8 Lady Phenoms 2024
Simple way to describe this young lady is a bucket. She revealed the ability to score in the open court as well as in half court settings. She was equally as effective from behind the arc, off the dribble or from a catch and shoot situation. Finished with contact around the rim and exhibited some mid-range game. Finishing with 20 plus in multiple games at the Oktober Fest.
# 3 Dominika Paurova 6’1 W Lady Phoenix 2023
Skilled perimeter foreign player from the Czech Republic. Scores from all three levels and makes it look easy. Dominika maneuvered and found ways to continually get open and deliver on the offensive end. She is a dependable ball handler for her size, shot maker, crafty scorer. As she adds strength and get acclimated to the American more physical style of play. Sky is the limit for this one.
#4 Jasmone Harris 5’8 Guard Lady Gaters 2024
Did not take long to notice Harris. She has a different gear heading down hill. The Gaters rising sophmore guard played up on the 17u and deliver points, steal, assists and rebounding.
#1 Laila Anderson 5’6 PG Lady Phenom 2022 (Uncommitted).
Anderson kept the ball on a yo-yo. She has a swag about her, that was infectious to her teammates. She did a nice job balancing scoring and distributing the ball. Nice pull up jumper, range to the arc, and the ability to take and hit and finish at the rim and draw fouls.
#1 Madison George Lady Attack 2023
Army swiss knife type, she does a bit of everything on the court. During her time at Oktober fest She play on the ball, off the ball, on the wing and in the post. She also provided a level of physicality for Coach Anthony George’s team. The Southpaw prospect provided three-point shooting, ball handling as well as the ability to guard multiple position.
#13 Avery Mills 5’7 guard Lady Phoenix 2024
I remember seeing a young Avery Mills play at HVCC in the NYS Playoffs a few years ago as a 7th grader. What a difference a few years make, don’t get me wrong she has always been a good player. But now she is a few inches taller and ended some strength. It’s a new ball game a solid all-around guard but her three points shooting ability takes her over the top.
#2 Serenity McNair 5’5 PG Strong Center 2024
While she may not be the first player you recognize in the team photo, she may be one of the most important in the photo. She scores, she defends, she makes wining plays all within the limitations of making everyone else look good around her. I saw her last spring, last summer and now this fall she has a combine record of 13-0 verses very strong competition.
#32 Kylie Chavis 5’9 Guard ABC Lightning 2023
During her time at the Oktober fest, Chavis did a nice job using her physicality as an asset. She used her size and strength well attacking the basket. Nice stroke that extends to the arc. Kylie did a nice job pulling up for mid-range shots instead if over penetrating when needed.
