Springfield, MA- Over the weekend, the South End Community Center housed the 4trh NYGSuper64 Skills Drills & Evaluation Camp in New England. This was the first stop of the three-city camp tour. Prospects from NY, NJ, PA, VT, CT, MA & NH participated in the one-day event. There were tons of standout players over the weekend, the NYGHoops Report staff has highlighted a few of them. Nia Edens (CT) 2024, was crowned the 1 on 1 Champ. Heaven Morris (MA) 2023 was named the high school MVP, Skyler Burke (CT) 2026, named middle school MVP & Taylor Brown (PA) 2027 was named Defensive camper of the day.
Nia Edens 5’10 (W) Connecticut 2024 Coming into camp I knew nothing about her, but once 1 on1 was done she was the talk of camp. Dependable ball handler with superior upper body strength and nice footwork. Capable of scoring at all three levels and attacking off the bounce. Will keep an rye out on her as she continues to add to her game. Sophie Hedge 5’9 (G) Connecticut 2023 This rising senior guard has all the tools. She moves well without the ball & knows when and how to make different cuts to create scape to make plays. Reliable ball handler that can knockl down shots. At time things looked very easy for her during camp. Kendra Foy 5’8 (G) Connecticut 2027 Foy was one of the youngest prospects attending this year’s camp, however you could not tell by her play. Downhill scorer who gets to the rim with ease, finishing ambidextrously and through contact. Someone to keep an eye on for the future. Paulina Vlahakis 6’4 (P) Connecticut 2024 The lone true post prospect at the camp. She is not yet a finished product but has many pleasant attributes that indicate worth keep an eye out for her. The first is that she is 6 foot 4, the second, is her feel for the game and another is her ability to knock down mid-range shots. As camp progresses you can see her gaining more and more confidence. Julie Bahati 6’2 (F) Massachusetts 2023 I was quiet familiar with Bahati, remember her from 8th grade year at NYGC2C in the Bronx. Fast forward three years the now rising senior had filled into her frame while not losing a step or any of her athletic ability. What caught my eye during camp, was her using the camp to play mostly facing the rim. Although well known in the western part of Mass as a interior terror, you can see she has worked on her ball handling & mid-range shot. She currently holds a few D1 scholarships expect that list to grow after the May viewing period. Taylor Brown 5’6 (PG) Pennsylvania 2027 The lone camper from Pennsylvania, did a great job representing the Keystone state. Brown is nicknamed “the Glove” for good reason. She applied so much ball pressure playing man to man defense, at times it resembled some kind of trapping defense. She was quickly able to establish herself amongst the older girls, facility buckets and creating transition opportunities and knocking down enough perimeter shots to keep the defense honest. Keep an eye out for the young guard. Alina Abdulina 5’11 (W/F) New York 2023 Abdulina, originally from Russia, is your classic euro tweener forward. Showed some ability to play around the rim. But during 5 on 5 she was at her best on the open court and on the perimeter stretching out the floor. She also provided some rebounding ability.. Elyse MacDonough 5’7 (G) Vermont 2024 Was not familiar with Elyse prior to camp but left impressed after camp. The first two things that caught my attention was her attention to details during drills and to her pension for making plays for both herself and others. While one of the most decorated players at camp (VT Gatorade POY) you could not tell from her humility and blue-collar mentality. You can catch this rising junior this spring and summer with the Lone Wolf Program out of Vermont. Skyler Burke 5’9 (G) Connecticut 2026 Got to see Skylar a year ago at an Elite Girls Basketball event last year in New Jersey. All I can say is 8th grade Skylar is not 7th Grade Skylar. The young guard was aggressive offensively yet efficient, I lost count after she connected on her 3rd three-pointer during 5 on 5 play. She use her size well attacking the rim playing amongst older prospects. At this rate I would pencil in seeing her before 9th rage Skylar erupts onto the CT screen. Heaven Morris 5’8 (G) Massachusetts 2023 Did not know much about Morris coming into the camp. After 4 hours in the gym with her she made her presence felt. Morris in addition to playing with passion and great energy the Springfield native played beyond her listed size. She used her athletic ability to and strength to create mismatches beating the defender off the bounce and in transition. Kelly Holmgren 5’11 (G) Connecticut 2023 I remember Holmgren form NYGSuoer64 in 2019. Back than she was a shy young freshman trying to figure things out. This time out, Holgram was a high IQ player with a nice feel for the game. With her calling card being her ability to shoot the ball. Catch and shoot with her feet set count it.
Kelli Cieplicki 5’9 (G) Vermont 2024
I really enjoyed watching this unassuming off guard. Looks are very deceiving; at first glance she looks no different than many typical teenage girls. This lefty wing/guard exhibited a nice first step that allows her to get into the lane and finish. During camp Kalli displayed sound technique and disipline defensively, using her length and timing allowing her to deflect if not block several shots. Offensively these are some works that come to mind when thinking about her game poise, carfrty, IQ & versatility.
