Atlanta, GA: On the third weekend of October, NYGHoops Report took a trip to the Peach State to attend the 4th EGB Middle School All American games. In the past, this event has been a staple at the NCAA Final four. Due to Covid19, the event was rescheduled but did not lose its appeal to attrack talent. There were many talented young players at the event. These are some of the players I got a chance to see play more than once over the weekend.
Which player(s) would college coaches wished they got to watch at EGBAAG?
22 Jaloni Cambridge 5’8 TN 2024
For me, this one is easy, 5 foot 8 Jaloni Cambridge of Tennessee. Cambridge continues to impress me more and more each time out. She plays way more significant than her listed size as she accrues her share rebounds and blocks shots as well point and rebounds. While she's a big-time scorer from all three levels, she also is an excellent passer and facilitator when needed.
44 Kaylinn Kemp 5'9 (G) Duncanville, TX 2024
Kemp is a player college coaches would have loved to see. The Drive Nations guard was more than impressive. It seemed like everywhere I looked up, she was scoring from the perimeter or attacking the basket. With many talented young campers on hand, she stood out from the pack. A superior athlete that was willing to play on both ends of the court during the weekend showed the ability to play multiple positions at a high level. 102 Sarah Nakamaru Miller 5’10 (G) Phoenix, AZ 2024
I'm not sure; I notice whether she was at the camp on day one or not. But watching her dominate on the second day, I have to believe she was not there on day one. Great size and length as a combo, she was for sure one of the camp's best scorers.
60 Zhen Craft 6’1 (W) Waldorf, MD 2024
Very few bring the physical measurables that Craft brings to the table—forward size with the guard alike guard like game and instincts. The long fluid prospect scored some around the rim but was at her best pushing the rock and looking very comfortable, dishing out assists. She also knocks down enough a few perimeter shots when left open. This Long smooth athlete plays for Team Takeover out of the DMV.
299 Ella Hobbs 6'3 F Mooresville NC 2024
While not yet a finished product, Hobbs has some excellent tools right now. Post / Forward is usually the hardest to project. Like the youngest post, she is still growing into her frame. Nevertheless, her combination of good hands, size, strength, coordination, and a shooting touch extends to the arc is impressive. Those are all good enough attributes to start a solid foundation. Towards the end of the camp, she looked unstoppable.
Which player made the strongest first impression?
267 Kiara Croskey 5’6 G, Sumter, SC 2024
Usually, it takes her a few minutes to get Croskey going. Nevertheless, during the EGBB AAG, she was on the attack right out the gate. So much so I did not recognize her. She has a scorer’s mentality but does so within the flow of the game. Three-level scorers that showed the ability to play either guard spot.
256 Tatum Brown 5'3 PG Atlanta GA 2025
Coming into camp, I knew little to nothing about this kid. However, after the second five on five-game, I quickly realized Brown might have one of the camp's best shooters. In more than one game, she connected on multiple threes and at times from NBA range.
32 Jaelyn Dye 4'11 G, Somerset, KY 2027
It will not surprise me if this is a coached kid. Deceptive young lead guard that uses her head just as such as she did her handles. Never really looked out of place playing versus older players, and when her number was called, she delivered. Floor general that can balance scoring and distributing the ball has some swag to her game.
New Yorkers in the building turning heads
238 Makylah Moore 5'7 PG, Saint Albums 2025
Moore is a strong combo that can score in a wide variety of ways. Reliable ball-handler, nice balance of strength and skill sets, range to the arc. Not afraid of contact, will post up when needed to create an advantage.
19 Grace Lanier 5'2 PG, Brooklyn, NY
A smallish savvy point guard, ultra-quick, nice handles, good decision maker / facilitates. Gets into the lane with ease, gets her shot off versus bigs. Blue-collar worker, that is not afraid to mix it up.
224 Madison Mayas 5'3 PG, Staten Island NY 2025
Coming into camp, she was unknown to me. She caught my eyes when she started knocking down three-point shots during five on five play. She played some on the ball as she grows and gets stronger, she will position herself to be a scholarship type player.
74 Olivia White 5'7 G, Bronx NY 2025
White is an exciting prospect that I am very familiar with. She may have had the most productive weekend of any of the NYC prospects rebounding and scoring. Her physical style allowed her many touches off rebounding and running the floor.
