Boston, Mass – The 2nd annual NYGHoops Report Northeast Elite 100 was held at the beautiful state of the Arts Emmanuel College Gymnasium. The event hosted players from the classes of 2019-2024, from New York, Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This write up will focus on some of the stand outs from the middle school group.
51 Sophia Vital5’03 PG (Vassal Lane Upper School, Mass 2022)
I don’t think I saw many, guards with more explosiveness then her. The PG from Bay State Jaguars displayed all the tools to be very good on the ball defender when she was locked in. Because of her quickness, explosiveness and bouncy athlete, she was a threat from 94 feet on both ends. As she continues to work on her three-point shot she will be a name major D1 schools need to remember.
60 Kaia Henderson PG (New Hartford HS, NY 2022)
While there were certainly plenty of players with lofty reputations at NYGNE100, Henderson didn’t show up in Boston with much of a national profile. Well, she certainly caught the eye of myself and others while, making the most of a big opportunity. Lead guard with scoring punch to the arc, never in a hurry and very willing to share the ball with teammates. Another player major D1 schools should add to their recruiting list.
29 Shay Bollin6’02 F (Bridgewater Raynham HS, Mass 2022)
By the end of the summer, there a good chance many schools will get involved with this local Mass prospects. Bollin is a coach’s kid so the intangibles are all there, efficient, confident and versatility. What surprised me was her ability to handle the ball and decision making at her size. Played both facing the rim and with her back to the basket just as effective. Bollin even knocked down a few three-point shots through the day. Classic face up forward.
9 Madigan Fitzpatrick5’07 G (Greely MS, Maine 2024)
I know it’s too early to project what will happen for such a young player. However, playing with the middle school group Fitzpatrick did more than just hold her own. Physically built like a HS player she was able to play threw contact and display multitude of skill sets. Played both on and off the ball and showed a knack for scoring with range to the arc.
23 Thai Davis5’03 PG (Dexter Southfield HS, Mass 2022)
Hands down one of the most polished scorer’s in camp. While she lacks prototype size, don’t let that fool you. Her ball handling skills and quickness served as her EZ-Pass to get her where ever she wanted on the court. The point guard form Boston played the passing lanes well. Coming up with many steals that turned into break away layups, while also converting on many mid-range pull up pumpers.
14 Sophia Fontaine6’01 F (Cathedral HS, Mass 2022
While not yet a finished product, you can see the potential right away. Not afraid of contact, and willing to mix it up with bigger stronger players. Fontaine ran the floor really well, and did a good job protecting the rim and was by far the best middle school defensive big at the camp. Her agility, coordination and ability to catch the ball leads me to believe as soon as her offense catches up to her defense she will be another highly sought after Mass prospect.
