Springfield, MA - On Mother’s Day weekend, NYGHoops Report presented its first annual
Northeast Elite 100 Camp at Springfield Central HS. The event hosted players from NY, MA, and CT. This write-up is a simple description of the amount of talent that attended the event.
Makayla Thompson 5’05 G Springfield Central (MA) 2018:
She had a very strong performance in all aspects of the camp from drills, skills development and competitive play. Thompson’s natural athletic ability stood out and allowed her to continually beat defenders off the bounce. During 5 on 5 play, she played her part of scoring and at times showed some ability to play on the ball.
Kendall Levasseur 6’01 P Palmer HS (MA) 2021:
Huge young post, does some nice things, still just scratching the surface, will excel in strength work. Does not shy away from physicality and show’s some agility, she has a nice touch from the free-throw line and a good passer.
Jeliena Sanchez 5’06 PG Springfield Central (MA) 2019:
This was not my first time seeing her. She was one of the best pure PG prospects at the event. Sanchez’s Strength, quickness, and ball handling abilities allowed her to get in the lane at will. Therefore, because of her skills, she accomplished the drills at hand with ease. Her perimeter shot also improved.
Amber Abusbeih 5’05 G Moore Catholic HS (NY) 2020 :
Abusbeih, traveled up to the bay state from her Staten Island residence. I promise she did not waste her time because she was one of the major surprises in camp. Amber was named All-City in Soccer as a freshman, and started her high school basketball career on Junior Varsity (JV). Therefore, she may have gone under the radar for some time. She displayed abilities to score on all three levels and displayed talent distributing the ball.
Samatha Jenks 5’10 W Hopkins Academy (MA) 2019:
College built athlete, showed the ability to do a bit of everything. Remained effective during drills in 5 on 5 play. Jenks played hard, contributed different things on the court. She defended well both on the perimeter and in the paint. Additionally, she showed authentic ball handling skills and the ability to knock down shots.
Rosheda Guthrie 5’05 G Springfield Central HS (MA) 2020 :
Long athletic built, showed dependable ball handling skills. Game skilled made for transition, smooth off the bounce, nice mid-range pull up.
Nicole Melious 5’06 G Middle School 2023:
The youngest prospect at the event, looked very comfortable amongst high schoolers. Looked more natural as a scorer than a PG. Melious, showed the ability to get to the rim and use both hands, and could get her shot off verses bigger players with her quick release.
Aleicia Maxwell 6’01 F Springfield Central (MA) 2020:
Raw Athlete, as the day progressed I seen more and more from her. The rim-runner did a good job altering shots and scored put backs off offensive rebounds.
