Watervliet, NY – The inaugural Upstate New York’s Top 24 housed some of Upstate New York’s top freshman, sophomores and juniors this past weekend. Watervliet H.S hosted the invite only two-day event, sponsored by long time NY basketball icon Jim Hart of the Albany City Rocks. The NY Top 24 has been a staple in the boy’s game for the past six years. NYGHoops report got a chance to view the action on day one.
Here are some of the standouts from the event:
Saniaa Wilson(2021)
For sure one of the highest profiled prospects at the event. Powerfully built nibble tweener 6 foot, forward did not disappoint. Wilson displayed the ability to play both inside/out, she also displayed a knack for rebounding on both ends. Sky is the limit for this young lady as she continues to develop her game, almost unfair to label her with a position …
Logan Thayne(2020)
The 6 foot 1 forward, may not be a house hold name; But her versatility shooting touch and footwork are not to be slept on. In 3 on 3 action, she displayed the ability to shoot from behind the arc, pass, handle the ball, block shots and good understanding of spacing.
Kiah Henderson(2022)
5-foot-7 Nice lead guard with a nice all-around game skillset. Her ball handling skills and shooting ability jumped right out at you. Henderson’s court vision and ability to share the ball, facilitated easy buckets for her teammates during camp.
Marianna Freeman(2021)
Freeman simply attacked defenders. She has the speed to catch an outlet pass and go coast to coast in a blur. 5 foot 5, shifty, and can breakdown the defenders with just a few dribbles. Her speed, quickness, ball handling, and ability to shoot off the bounce made her a threat the minute she touches the ball.
Ariannah Staton (2021)
Satton is a wing player who plays within herself and always found her way around the ball. At 5- foot-11, she has great size and athleticism for her position. She displayed the ability to score on mid-range shots as well as attacking the rim as. As she continues to add strength and confidence she is a name to remember.
Dominyka Paliulyte(2020)
The 5-foot-9 junior national lllllllll player. Looked right at home at the New York Top 24 event. Nice around game, IQ, high motor, physical style allows her to play and guard multiple positions. Displayed a nice mid-range stroke and the to finish at the rim with contact.
Jillian Hueter(2022)
The 5-foot 9 shooting guard was for sure one of the best perimeter shooters at the event. From the last time I saw her this summer, she has added some strength. As Hueter continues to improve her all-around game she will be a name to remember.
