Livonia, MI- Quick recap of some of the top performing junior’s (2019), NYGHoops Report got to see this past weekend at the LBI Michigan Mega Scrimmage 2017.
Kierstan Bell 6’01 G/F (Canton McKinley HS, OH 2019)
My second time seeing Bell, the first was during a EYBL game and she was not the main focus of the team at the time. All I can say is, if she was the only prospect I saw during the event the trip was well worth it. The first two games she was so much more advance than the competition, at times it looked like the comp was running as fast as they could and she was jogging. But her team’s third game vs. Detroit Edison was a beauty. Seeing her and Rickea Jackson face-off and mostly guarding each other and not shying away from the competition was a sight and a great game that came down to the last shot.
Rickea Jackson 6’03 W/F (Detroit Edison, MI 2019)
I was quite familiar with Jackson, but never the less she was still as impressive as the first time I saw her. She may arguably be the best prospect in the state of Michigan regardless of class. So, it was very refreshing to see such a highly touted athlete dive head first for a loose ball in a preseason scrimmage. Jackson’s, skill-set, size, agility, strength and aggressiveness were all on display during the Michigan Mega Scrimmage. Her size and skill-set allows her to play and defend multiple positions. I’m sure her best basketball is still ahead of her.
Molly Davis 5’07 PG (Middland Dow HS, MI 2019)
I got to see the Central Michigan commit play once, during the event. Her team was not as talented as many of the other teams at the event. However, having Davis, on the ball kept her team in the game. She is a strong, smart guard that reads the floor and takes what the defense gives her. She also displayed the ability to make shots.
Mahrianna Petree 5’11 G (Arbor Prep, MI 2019)
Enjoyed watching Petree, a smooth efficient scorer. She used her size to her advantage during the event playing multiple positions (1-4). Conversely, she projects as a wing at the next level. She displayed ability to handle the ball verses pressure, stroke the ball from behind the arc and rebounded well for her size.
Destiny Stronther 5’09 G (Flint Carman-Ainsworth HS, MI 2019)
Marquette Commit… Confident on the perimeter. Improved from last time I saw her in the summer. She was active moving without the ball create shooting opportunities. Scorer/Shooter with range, was effective in catch and shoot situations and was a pest on the defensive end.
Del’Janae Wlliams 5’06 G (Detroit King HS, MI 2019)
Saw her before her injury last season. Williams is not back to her 100% self, but it was easy to see she is a D1 player. Ball handler with a smooth stroke from behind the arc. Understands the game and plays under control.
Jeanae Terry 5’10 PG (Wayne Memorial HS, MI 2019)
Lead guard with good size, crafty, deceptive, plays with flair. Enjoyed passing as much as scoring, displayed very good court awareness. She used her size to shoot mid-range shots over smaller guards. Showed a willingness to defend which kept her on the floor extended minutes.
Taylor Williams 6’02 F (Macomb Dakota HS, MI 2019)
Long lean athletic forward, finished at the rim in transition. Created more problems on the defensive end tipping balls and shot blocking.
Alexis Johnson 5’10 W (Southfield A&T HS, MI 2019)
Slasher with a motor, nice looking stroke on her mid-range jumper. Johnson is very athletic but plays under control. Come up with multiple steals in both games I saw.
Emily Eckhout 5’09 G (Rochester Stoney Creek, MI 2019)
Olivia Brown 5’09 G (East Grand Rapids, MI 2019)
Jasia Caldwell 6’00 F (Flint Carman-Ainsworth HS, MI 2019)
Sydney Shafer 5’09 G (Jackson Northwest HS, MI 2019)
Tanaziah Hines 6’02 F (Toledo Rogers, OH 2019)
Jayah Hicks 6’00 W (Wayne Memorial HS, MI 2019)
