Bronx, NY- NYC Gauchos presented the Mecca Lady Choz Girls HS Basketball Challenge. NYGHoops Report was on hand to cover the first two days of the three-day event. Because I missed the last day of the event, it would not be possible for me to provide an all-tournament team, but I can for sure create a starting five of unsigned and committed players from the first two days.
Diamond Miller 6’02 Franklyn HS 2019
Miller was one of the top prospects at the event regardless of class. At one point during the game vs. Capital Prep (CT) she played all five positions. At the next level her skill set will allow her to play a position on the perimeter. Miller’s shooting touch, ball-handling and ability to fit in tiny cracks attacking the basket were all on display in her team’s lone game at the event.
Andrea Aquino 6’09 P Eastside HS 2018 (NJ)
Another top prospect, Aquino was as aggressive as I’ve ever seen her on Friday night at the Mecca. In the past, I’ve seen her hang out primarily on the perimeter, however on this night she kept the defense off balance. Andrea also played from the elbow and at times on the block. Her touch extends to the three-point line but she is at her best from the mid-range. As she continued to score you could see her confidence growing on the defensive end; deflecting and deterring shots.
Kaelynn Satterfield 6’00 W/F Christ the King (NY)
Satterfield may not have put up the gaudy numbers at the Mecca, but it was very easy to identify who facilitates things on the court for CK. She is a strong, athletic tweener that can consistently deliver off the dribble. Satterfield constantly creates mismatches, draws contact, gets to the line and has a good feel for finding open teammates.
Marissa Mackins 5’08 PG Carolina Prep 2018 (NY)
A blue-collar PG, Mackins is a bit underrated by most. She does all the little things a team needs to help win and played hard while on the court. The strong, crafty lead-guard has a deceptive first step. She is a scoring threat that handles and distributes in up-tempo game. She has range to the arc and is a good rebounder for her size.
Kristen Deans 5’06 PG Forest Trail Academy 2019 (NC)
This was not my first time seeing her, but every time her team plays, Deans catches my eye. She is a confident, athletic and competitive lead-guard with a scoring punch & consistent range to the three-point line. Deans applies pressure on the ball, anticipates and converts her defense to offense.
