Fountain Valley, CA – This weekend Los Amigos high school hosted the Future Stars Showcase. True to its name the event brought out many of the area’s top young talents. These are a few names we feel you will be hearing more from this fall and in the near future.
45 Makena Ramos 5’10, Guard, California 2030 I could not believe she was only going to be a 7th grader this fall. Ramos, dominated in drills, 3x3 and 5x5 competition. When it’s all said and done, she may have a chance to settle into the upper tier of the 2030 player rankings. She was a consistent and efficient perimeter threat from behind the arc all weekend long.
33 Mikhaila Cudia 5’6, Guard, California, 2029 This was my first-time ever seeing Cudia over the weekend at FSS. Mikhaila plays with a poise and maturity of a seasoned three-year varsity letter winner. The graceful three level scorer plays at her own pass and may have been one of the top shooters at the Future Star Showcase.
53 Legand Tyler 5’10 G/W, California, 2029 Smooth, athletic lead guard with combo-game. Manufactures and elevates teammates level of play always willing to make the extra pass. Displayed the ability to operate off the bounce as well as play without the ball. Another thing that caught my eye was she was equally an impressive shooting from mid-range as from behind the arc.
43 Alyssa Canizal 5’8 Guard, California 2028 Strong, deceptive, crafty guard that gets into the lane and finished through contact. Stationary threat at the arc. Power guard with a game to exploit mismatches. Did a really nice job protecting (cuffing) the ball during attacking the basket FSS.
Got a chance to take a second look of mix over the weekend at FSSand she did not disappoint. My first time seeing J-Mix was in NYC last year at the East Coast Halloween Showcase playing with the uber talented FBC Coast 2 Coast, middle school team. Mix is a smooth, athletic lead guard that gets into the lane with ease and brings a scorer’s mentality to the game.
62 Isabella Riddle 6’1 W/F, California 2028 Nothing not to like about this freshman incoming freshman this fall. She checks all the boxes with size, skill sets, IQ and productivity. Prior to camp I had never seen Riddle play, but trust it did not take too long to figure out that this could be a big-time player for West Coast Elite program. Played all five positions at some point in camp. Also displayed the ability to get things started in transition with her ball handling and was a monster on the boards during FSS.
56 Robin “Rudy” Hopkins 6’1 G/W California 2029 Rudy is from Finland but currently resides in California. Polished perimeter player with front court size. Versatile prospect showed some ability to play both inside/out. Both days, Rudy made everything look effortless. She brings some power and quick twitch off the bounce. Presents match problems, guards are too small and bigs are not nimble enough to guard her. TEAM G, got themselves a nice looking Future Star.
40 Jaylene Hughes 5’8 Guard California, 2027 Hughes is a hard noise blue collar type, that brings it on both ends. More of a scorer than just a flat-out shooter. Jaylene came into camp with a reputation as a prolific score, but during her time at Future Star Showcase, she did a nice job balancing between scoring, defending and distributing the ball.
