Empire State Takeover Summer Kick-Off 2017

 
 
Schenectady, NY- Last weekend the capital region became the headquarter of New York basketball. With University of Albany (UAlbany) hosting its Elite camp on campus Friday night. Empire State Takeover was across town in Schenectady hosted a very successful inaugural Summer Kickoff Showcase on the same night. While John Kmack would round out the weekend with arguably the most commutative events in June. GymRat Challenge celebrated its 20 ^th year. This write up will concentrate on Summer Kickoff Showcase and some of the top junior high performers at that event.
 
 
121 Abbie Grace 6-0 F/W Ichabod Crane 2022
 
length and frame stood alone stood out to me as a 7 ^th grader, then throw in atheism into the mix.  Grace played both in the paint and some on the wing, did show some range and form on her shot. But did even more damage playing in the paint blocking shots and withstanding the physical form high schoolers.
 
 
45 Laycee Drake 5-5 PG Hancock HS 2021  
 
Ball handling passing and decision making where all very evident at the showcase. Drake also showed enough scoring ability and the ability not to over penetrate using her mid-range shot.
 
52 Jess Cook 6-2 F Cicero North Syracuse 2021 
 
First thing I noticed about the young lady, was that she attended Breanna Stewart and like the WNBA stat the both played HS Basketball in the 8 ^th grade. Cook has a way larger frame and is more of post area type player. Cook did a very good job rebounding and show some touch facing up 10-12 feet.
 
120 Sloe Carrington 5-6 G Shaker 2021 
 
Played bigger than listed size, athletic built combo guard. May have had the best shooting night from behind the arc of any guard at the event. Also displayed the ability to play at different tempos.


111 Fiona Mooney 5'10 F Cambridge HS 2021 
 
Wiry built forward showed some ball skills and ability to play around the rim. At the showcase she displayed all of the traits of a future tweener forward. But if she develops her perimeter skills i’m sure this is not the last time you will hear her name.
