Detroit, MI- The Best of Michigan showcase event was held at Martin Lather King HS in downtown Detroit, MI. For the the past six years this event has brought together the premier teams in the state regardless of classification. Destiny Pitts 5’10 G Detroit Country Day 2017 (pictured)
Pitts has nice size, strength and skill set combined with her approach of letting the game come to her, she is perfect backcourt mate for the aggressive Kaela Webb (2019). She is a versatile player that can contributes whatever is needed on the fly for a team. She played on the ball at critical points of the game towards the end of the game, after logging major minutes on the wing and the lane. She showing the ability to attack off the bounce as well as spot up from behind the arc. Pitts finished with 16 points vs Toledo Rogers HS (OH).
Sophia Karasinski 5’10” G Grand Rapid Catholic Central 2017
Karasinski can score in a variety of ways, but what caugh my eye about her was her ability to compete at both ends. Playing against a loaded Southfield Lathrop teams with four total BCS players, and having to close out the game without her running mate ‘17 Kyra Bussell (Central Michigan) who fouled out early in the 4th quarter. Karasinski finished with 18 points
Alyza Winston 5’05” PG Muskegon Mona 2019
Winston played at one speed with the ball in her hands, fast. She did a hand full of the scoring for her team. She finishing with 20 points in a easy victory verses Dearborn Heights Robichaud who was without there star player (’17 Kamaria McDaniel) due to injury. Winston did show some touch on her mid range shot, explosiveness getting to the basket and the ability to get to the free throw line.
Deja Church 5’09” G Southfield Lathueup HS 2017
This kid is a natural scorer. She applies a lot of pressure on a defense both in transition as well as in half court sets. She is nimble enough to slithers through cracks in defenses but also has the strength to finish with contact. She displayed enough shooting to keep defenders honest. Although her team was down a majority of the game she competed on both ends and filling the stat sheet with some rebounds and steals and 19 points vs Grand Rapids Catholic Central (MI).
Del’Janae Williams 5’08” G MLK HS 2019
Williams is a long confident guard with a nice stroke. She was another prospect I got to see both days at the event each game knocking down at least three 3 pointer. Williams showed a good feel for the game and did not shy away from defending. On the second day of the event she was in the gym walking around with a ball and at the half of every game, she go on court to get up shots even after she had already played.
