Daytona Beach, FL- The 2
ndannual BFRC was hosted at Mainland H.S. The invite only event required all the participants were nominated. With such high level of talent in one building, it was a great idea to play one game at a time.
NYGHoops Reportwas on hand for all six games. While a majority of the event participants will play at some level of collegiate hoops. These are some of the athlete’s that caught my eye:
#82
Paris Pickett 6’03 F (West Orange, FL 2022)
One can argue she may have been the top prospect at the event. Her size and skill-sets project well to the next level. Was very comfortable playing facing the rim as well as with her back to the basket. Pickett Length, instincts and agility permitted her to challenge shots straight up and from help side.
133
Amari Wright 5’06 PG Sandalwood HS, FL 2020)
Got a chance see her multiple times over the weekend. The lead guard played within herself and likes to be on the ball at all times. Although listed at 5 foot 6, she played much bigger than her listed size.
#39
Nasia Powell 5’08 PG (Vanguard HS, 2021)
Athletic explosive lead guard with combo skills. Natural scorer from anywhere on the floor. Quickness, Strength and vision allowed her to blow by one on one defenders or find open teammates for easy drop-offs. Did not have a great night from behind the arc, but showed good form and bounce on the shot.
#81
Olivia Delancey 6’01 F (Lakewook HS, FL 2022)
Delancey is a viable scoring threat on the wing. Nice shooting touch from behind the arc & versatility enough to put it on the floor to attack the basket. Her size and college ready frame allowed her to play in the lane and finish with contact. Won the MVP of her game and produced the highest scoring output of the day with 26 points.
#9
Taliah Scott 5’06 PG (Oakleaf JHS, FL 2023)
She was a tough as they come off the bounce. Super quick, crafty and equipped with a yoyo handle. Skilled young guard who’s shot was not falling on this day. Nevertheless, her ability and skills still outshined. Scott did connect on a few three pointers, but her ability to get into the lane and create was on par with any player at the event regardless of class.
#25
Chloe Kitts 5’09 G (Jackson Heights JHS, FL 2023
Kitts showed the ability to carry the scoring load. The long lean prospect did a good job moving without the ball, showing some ability to play without the ball in her hands. She displayed a nice stroke from the perimeter, but I see her as a bit more than just a shooter. She won the MVP award of the first game of the day.
#125
Leah Barnes 5’09 G (Carrollwood Day School, FL 2024)
Barnes is a do it all, bigger combo guard. One of the things that intrigued me the most, was her willingness to share the ball with kids she did not know. The smooth, athletic, skilled two-way player is a youngster to keep an eye out for in the future.
#142
Maliyah Perry 5’05 PG (Carrollwood Day School, FL 2020)
Smaller lead guard with a noise for making plays. Perry did a good job playing in the passing lanes coming up with multiple steals and creating transition opportunities. When left open showed the ability to make the three-point shot, nice job distributing and protecting the ball.
#74
Bella Weary 5'07 G (Bartram Trail HS, FL 2021)
Fast lead guard who can fill it up, Weary showed the ability to get to the rim and finish or draw a foul or both. She excelled in the uptempo game. The thing that I liked most about Weary was she showed some range knocking down the 3 ball and was able to score both on drives and off the bounce from the perimeter. Also a capable defender.
#24
Olivia Davis O5’05 G (R. Nolan Middle School, FL 2023)
#99
Mya Lamar 6’03 F (Strawberry Crest, FL 2022)
#52
