The world has changed, largely due the #Covid19 pandemic many prospects’ recruiting is currently “on hold”. Despite the current state of affairs, players are colleges/universities are looking at player’s “body of work” as a result, Anna Eng (2021) is finally being recognized for her hard work from last summer and fall seasons. This is no more evident than her recent (and 1st) offer from NJIT’s Mike Lane (Head Coach).
Eng, a 5-foot-5 PG attended #NYGSuper64 (Fall Session) and it became obvious that her game changed between June - September. This was highlighted by Jeff Mlinar (Director of EST Fall SHOWCASE) statement of the 5’5” dynomo, “Anna is known as a very skilled PG that brings the flash & style with her game, but don’t be fooled – there’s a ton of substance and real competitive edge: She was a clear standout at this event at the guard spot.”
We, at NYGHOOPS Report, had a chance to speak to the NY Extreme guard about her goals, “This past season two of my goals were to score my 1000th career point and to get physically stronger, I can proudly say I achieved them both; Right now I am continuing to workout every day to keep my body in shape for my future basketball endeavors. One of my high school goals for next year is to bring home the Section One Gold Ball.”
In hindsight, Croton-Harmon HS product was on the right track. As an unassuming, harmless looking PG carried her class B team to a 12-9 record and the 7th seed in the Section 1 playoffs. The crafty scoring guard who was opposing teams’ scouting reports started and ended with her showed the ability to score on three levels off the bounce and at times display NBA type range.
During our conversation, we asked the junior guard, “which schools have offered you thus far and what are you looking for in a school? The pint sized guard responded, “currently have received offers from Adelphi University, Holy Family University, and New Jersey Institute of Technology and I am looking for a school where I can grow both academically and athletically. One of the metrics that stand out to me is the student to faculty ratio.”
Eng plans on keeping us updated on her recruiting, but in the meantime, one can assume she will continue to keep working.
